      Dear Translators,

I am reviewing the file “Roger-Router” at Transifex.

There are many abbreviations that are totally incomprehensible.

Some of the automatic translations into French are a bit funny.

      Example string 6:
      In English -> *
In French -> git locale po

If some translators have the explanation for the abbreviations, it would be nice to share them here on the forum.

      Thanks to all,
      Wallon

I could be mistaken, but before doing anything, check with the experts. Like a few of the recent changes, these look like items that probably should be left alone UNLESS someone is ABSOLUTELY positive they are translatable fields. My guess is that they are NOT, but I’ll defer to the experts.

          Hello Wallon, hello Brian!

There are many abbreviations that are totally incomprehensible.

This is absolutely true. Some of them I also can’t make much of.

As you already said, all languages except English and German (and meanwhile Brasilian Portuguese) are automatic translations, and I have no clue what’s the idea when Google-translate translates an asterisk * to the words “git locale po”. This strange thing has happened in many languages, as far as I can see. All these entries must get fixed manually.

Since I don’t know the source code of roger-router (it’s available, but it’s written in C language I don’t understand properly) also me can only guess what’s the meaning of this asterisk, and I believe it’s part of the dialing field used in the softphone which is part of this program, just like all the numbers 0-9. Obviously these entries have been made translatable to allow to easily change the symbols on the dial keys in foreign languages which don’t use the Arabic numbering system.

these look like items that probably should be left alone

This is a good idea for entries we can’t decide from looking into the GUI of the program (or in case somebody can manage to look it up in source code). So just reset any google-translate-rubbish (like the translation of the asterisk) back to the English original if you can’t make anything of it.

UNLESS someone is ABSOLUTELY positive they are translatable fields

The program author has marked all these strings as translatable, so we should assume they are actually meant for translation in some way. Keep in mind the existing translation resource was rebuilt from the German .mo file found in the installer package, not created freshly from the program’s sourcecode.

Maybe an important hint: The program author is a German, and probably the German version of the entries (which was the single translation provided along with the program) is the true original, while the English strings might contain some inaccuracies from translation already. So you should check your translation with the true original language of this program here always.

I’ll attach screenshots of what I can see from its GUI, so you can try to look up questionable expressions.

Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Entry number 17 is: “<No profile>”, shouldn’t this entry be translated?

Thanks for checking the other language translations.
