Rox filer can be a bit difficult to get used to for some antiXers. Here are a few tips I use to make it enjoyable to use:
1. Stop it from “jumping around” when you change directories
The default behavior is that it resizes its window each time you change the directory. This gives the effect (to my mind) that it is “jumping around.”
To stop it from doing this:
a. right-click on the open area of the window (i.e., not on an icon)
b. select “options…”
c. on the options window that pops up, at the top, select “never automatically resize” and click “ok.”2. Tip number one will give you a standard-sized window which will not automatically resize itself when you change directory. But what if you want it bigger?
I find it hard to “grab” the corner of the window to “drag” it to make it bigger. I found myself feeling very uncoordinated, as it normally took waaay too long to actually grab it to resize it larger.My solution is to use “wingrid” to resize with no problems. Wingrid comes with antiX base & full.
Thankfully, wingrid comes with easily memorizable keys to snap the window into a predefined size & location. Rox will keep that size until you close it (if you did tip number one).
In Icewm, the hot keys are Ctrl+Alt+? — Substitute “?” with:
1 for left half of screen (that is Ctrl+Alt+1)
2 for right half of screen (that is Ctrl+Alt+2, and so on…)
3 for top half
4 for bottom half
5 for upper left quadrant
6 for upper right quadrant
7 for lower left
8 for lower right
9 for maximize the window
0 for close the windowSo, no more fighting with ROX. 🙂

In many cases a double click on background will resize the rox window enough to see items.
Maximum window size setting is available in options so you can ensure your screen will not
be blocked.calciumsodium
To copy or move items from one folder to another using rox-filer, open up two rox-filer windows. One window is the one that you want to copy/move FROM. The other window is the one that you want to copy/move TO. Highlight the items that you want to copy/move from that first window using the Ctrl + left mouse button and while pressing down on the left mouse button on the highlighted items, drag them to an open area in the destination window and release the left mouse button. If you want to highlight everything, use Ctrl + A. Upon release of the left mouse button, it will give you the option to copy or move. Be careful what the default option is. On my system, it is the move.
If you want to copy or move to a folder that is NOT in the home folder, then open the destination folder using rox-filer as root. I do that using
sudo rox
in terminal. Or you can use the menu: Applications > System > ROX Filer as root.

Another information that can be useful is that the ROX-Filer File Manager is able to mount Windows partitions that SpaceFM or zzzFM can’t.

You can hit “/” to get a navigation bar. Backspace takes you up one level. Type the first few characters of the file or folder you want to open and use “tab” to autocomplete and enter to open. Makes navigating much faster, in my opinion.
Regarding resizing windows, at least in icewm, you can hold down alt and right click (and hold) anywhere in the window to be able to drag and resize. Alt and left click (and hold) moves the window.
