Alt-b in rox-term opens a tab dialog. Gnu readline has Alt-b move back on the command line. Is there a preference available in rox-term to use the readline keystrokes. Or shall I just use urxvt?

This works in rox-term, which has already assigned the Alt key for its own purpose:
“If you do not have a meta key, the identical keystroke can be generated by typing ESC first, and then typing k. Either process is known as metafying the k key.”
Not so handy.

I might prefer LXTerminal:
Menu, Edit, Preferences, Advanced:
Check! Disable using Alt-n for tabs
