Try removing them rather than upgrading them

      That gets me:

      # apt-get -s remove libbsd0 libmpv1 libpython3.9 libpython3.9-minimal libpython3.9-stdlib libsndfile1 python3.9 python3.9-minimal xfsprogs
      Reading package lists... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
libcairo2 : Depends: libx11-6 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxcb-render0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxcb-shm0 but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libxcb1 (>= 1.6) but it is not going to be installed

E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages."

      But if I remove libcairo2:

      `# apt-get -s remove libcairo2
      Reading package lists… Done
      Building dependency tree… Done
      Reading state information… Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have

or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
      mpv : Depends: libavcodec58 (>= 10:4.3.1)
Depends: libavdevice58 (>= 10:4.3.1) but it is not going to be installed
      Depends: libavfilter7 (>= 10:4.3.1)
Depends: libavformat58 (>= 10:4.3.1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: vapoursynth (>= 52) but it is not going to be installed
E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

      Then if I remove mpv:

I lose claws-mail that is NOT acceptable.

        Read what I posted.

apt purge ONLY libbsd0:i386 and libsndfile1:i386

Are you deliberately misreading my instructions?

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

No, not5 at all. That’s all I did but I mistakenly only “remove” not “purge”.

The rest was all with “-s” simulating. Just in case it revealed anything useful… apparently not.

          As requested:

Use 'apt autoremove' to remove it.
The following packages will be REMOVED:

            Dzhigit already mentioned it,
it is somehow irritating that init on bullseye, testing needs systemd-sysv or sysvinit-core as dependencies,
while the dependencies in buster are also fulfilled by runit-init.
            https://packages.debian.org/en/bullseye/init
I guess I’ll try a runit testing install.

Unfortunately on a clean install , repos set to testing
First apt wants to keep init back, but after a dpkg error and apt –fix-broken install
I get the same problem here

Tried this from fresh install of 19.3 runit (64 bit).

                  1. Install to hard-drive
                  2. sudo apt dist-upgrade
                  3. sudo apt-purge fbsplash-antix

                  4. sudo apt install –reinstall fbsplash-antix
                  5. All sems ok, then another sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade shows OP message about removing init and runit-init
                  6. Here is the solution!! sudo apt purge init and type Yes, do as I say! when prompted.
                  7. To be safe, but probably not needed, sudo apt install –reinstall runit-init
                  8. Reboot

This worked fine on 21a Thanks
Here is the solution!! sudo apt purge init and type Yes, do as I say! when prompted.
                      7. To be safe, but probably not needed, sudo apt install –reinstall runit-init
                      8. Reboot
