Hi,
I installed sane-utils and update-inetd came along as a dependency. However since I don’t have an inetd installed, I get error messages when update-inetd attempts to update. I just looked and saw that xinetd and inetutils-inetd are in our repositories. Anybody have experience with these and can offer advice about which package to install?
I am told this daemon needs to be configured for sane to work for scanning across my network. (While I have two computers that are already able to work with my network scanner, I am trying to get the third one working and I thought this might help.)
Thanks in advance.

After installing xinet, and without configuring it, I subsequently got scanning working on all computers. Don’t think xinetd had anything to do with solving it.
So my opening post is now moot.
