Screen blinking

Hi everyone,
Since a day I am a proud user of antiX 21 🙂
I have done all updates and rebooted several times but unfortunately I still have a problem.

My screen turns on and off every many times (in a fraction of a half second).
Sometimes not for a minute but sometimes 3 times in a row.
How can I best solve this?

Did you select “safe video mode” or “failsafe” when you booted antiX 21 from USB?

You system seems to not be using the modesetting or intel video modules.

In any case, you can fix the issue by running this:
sudo make-xorg-conf -f intel -o /etc/X11/xorg.conf

and rebooting. It will force the intel xorg video module.

There may be a better solution (like creating a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/01-intel-video.conf and same the options there, but I am not knowledgeable enough for this.

Just an additional tip,
if you have problems with screen tearing, which is the case for me with the intel chip, you can add the following line to your xorg-conf file
Option “TearFree” “true”

I tried both of these workarounds and the problems I’m experiencing still exist:

1. Constant flickering of text when scrolling in browser
2. Occasional flickering of whole screen – these glitches are coming in ‘clusters’ and are almost like a strobe at their worst (good job I’m not epileptic!)

Additionally, I’m having bizarre screen freezing where keyboard input and mouse buttons/scroll wheel don’t work, but mouse still moves cursor. ALT-Shift-F2 does nothing, and neither does CTRL-ALT-DEL. I have to power off machine to restart.

I have found a lot of issues related to intel HD Graphics 620.

Would you mind trying to add this boot parameter?
915.enable_psr=0

If antiX is installed and not live, try it on the grub boot menu. Hit the ‘e’ key and it will display a terminal-like editor. Type the parameter somewhere after the “quiet” parameter (leave a space before and after the 915.enable_psr=0 parameter), and then start the booting process by pressing the F10 key.

If the flickering still happens, let us know and we will keep researching.

Oh,oh this is a hybrid graphic laptop and my practical experience with it is zero.
What you can see, however, is that the intel card is probably being used at the moment. But you have the nvidia driver installed, so the first question would be: How did you install the nvidia?
The nvidia-installer in the control-centre of antiX should have automatically offered to install bumblebee.

If you mainly want to use the nvidia card, which needs more power though, it might be a solution to disable the intel card in the bios, if possible.

In the other thread you mentioned that the box runs with antiX19 without problems. Without any settings ?

I installed the nvidia driver through Synaptic. I can try the Control Centre option and see if that brings joy.

EDIT: Just to be clear, the flickering was happening from the first minutes I ran the system, and BEFORE I tried to install the nvidia driver. I tried that as I thought it might fix it. I was following Debian wiki instructions.

What kernel version were you running on antiX 19? Could you share the
inxi -Gxxx
output from antiX 19?

My guess is that it is a problem f a kernel driver, but I may be wrong.

And the kernel you are using in antiX 19?
inxi -S

Probably removing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and booting with the same kernel as antiX 19 will lead to no flickering. But first better confirm that it isn’t the same kernel used in antiX 19 and 21 on your machine.
