Hello guys,
I just installed antiX on my 16 year old Compaq Armada M300 laptop. It’s a Pentium III 600 MHz with 192 MB RAM and an ATI Rage LT Pro. It runs incredibly smooth and I can actually use the machine for my programming needs.
I do have a slight problem with the screen and the dimming of the backlight. After a normal boot the hardware brightness controls (Fn + brightness + up/down arrow) works just fine and the screen is bright. If however I switch away from the GUI and go to eg. tty2 (ctrl + alt + F2) and then go back to the GUI, the screen is suddenly very dim and the hardware brightness controls don’t work any more. Restarting X (ctrl + alt + backspace) solves the problem until the next time I switch to the console.
I’ve tried turning DPMS off and changed some settings in the brightness scripts in /etc/acpi to no avail.
I’ve found that starting a game like OpenTTD, in windowed mode, not leaving the GUI, will also dim the screen irrevokably until restart of X.
Any suggestions?
Also how do I stop antiX from searching for the floppy – fd0 – on startup? The Floppy was connected during install via a parallel cable but is not connected during normal running.
Thanks a lot 🙂
