I have my laptop hooked up to my TV with an S-Video cable so I can watch streamed movies on my TV. It works fine, however the default screen resolution on the TV is 848 X 480 and the default resolution for the laptop is 1024 X 768 so the lower segment of the movie is cut off on the TV. I can correct this by going to control center > session > screen resolution and manually setting the TV to 1024 X 768, however the next time I watch a movie, the TV setting again defaults to 848 X 480. I have tried saving the setting to /root/.screenlayout/tv.sh but this does not work and it keeps defaulting to the lower resolution. If I go to root/.screenlayout and execute tv.sh then the resolution for the TV will change to the higher resolution. I tried setting up a shortcut to tv.sh on my desktop but it won’t execute.

How can I get the TV setting to default to the higher resolution?

      Thanks for the help.

Maybe the shortcut would work if you do not save the tv.sh not under root/, instead under home. You can also call it .tv.sh
Then its a hidden folder in home, make it executable
        Command would be
        arandr .tv.sh

Thanks Caprea–I was able to get the desktop link to change the resolution which will make it more convenient that having to manually change the resolution through the control center each time.

Ideally, I would like to get the system to default to the higher resolution when I boot up. Do you have any ideas on how to do this?

            Success!

I was able to piggy back on your instructions and get the TV setting to default to the higher resolution. Here is what I did:
I went to control center > session >user desktop-session > startup tab. At the end of the list, I added the line: /home/.tv.sh

            Thank you for the help.
