I am using 17.4.1. This disk was somehow set to 640×480 and even though I am doing an xrandr for 1024×768. There is no xorg.conf. When I go to the control center under session and try and change resolutions, only 640×480. Is there somewhere else where the screen resolution gets set.
Thanks,
Jackson
Give us some specs of your system

My guess is that before installation it set xorg driver to vesa, and is limiting your max resolution.

Hi,
you can try to use the console/terminal as well which is basically what the GUI does.
Sometimes, the GUI may miss some of the resolutions available.
An example for 1152×864 with (default) refresh 60:
xrandr --listactivemonitors
cvt 1152 864 60
xrandr --newmode '1152x864_60.00' 81.75 1152 1216 1336 1520 864 867 871 897 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode VGA-0 1152x864_60.00
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1152x864_60.00
1) xrandr: Get the list of monitors.
2) cvt: Find correct setings for your resolution ‘X’ times ‘Y’ via ‘cvt’.
3) xrandr: Generate new mode; name and parameters copied from the output of ‘cvt’!
4) xrandr: Add mode “to” the monitor.
5) xrandr: Set the output to use this new mode.
Tip: save these commands to a BASH script so you may easily re-run them if something resets the values to incorrect ones.
