      – I noticed that antiX’s file search application, Searchmonkey was not localized to pt-pt (I didn’t test in other languages). It’s also a bit old and seems to be a dead project (it’s home page is suspended)
I searched on-line and found fsearch over at https://github.com/cboxdoerfer/fsearch/releases/tag/v0.1
It’s latest version is just a couple of months old, it’s fast, a tiny deb, almost perfectly localized (at least in pt-pt), it’s deb file is small (less than 300kb) and it’s already packaged by MX Linux… It would be a perfect alternative to Searchmonkey, either by being installed by users or by replacing Searchmonkey as default search tool in future antiX versions.
Not that zzzfm-find, included by default, isn’t a good GUI search tool, it is, it’s also very well localized… (tip: changing zzzfm-find.desktop Exec line to “zzzfm –find-files ~ %F” makes it easier to search for files in your home folder (it’s probably where most people search for files, right?)…

…But I find fsearch is a lot more intuitive to use, and it seems a bit faster too…

        Looks promising.
It is very new though ie

        First stable release: 0.1

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

          Hello PPC,

I have been unsatisfied with searchmonkey (and some other tools) too, and I ended up with the “rofi search” script I shared in this MX thread. It’s just a more elaborate and configurable version of some “locate + rofi onliners” already shared on antiX forum.

For my own use, and I guess for some others users, that’s quite perfect (extremely fast, powerful as you can see the last modified files with just one key tap, and you can made plain text search as well if you need to dive in older files…). It probably does not answer every need, but it’s good enough for daily use.

In my mind, this rsearch script could be interesting for every antiX user, especially for those already using rofi as an app launcher.

That said, I am interested in this “fsearch” tool as well, as for some specific searchs additional features are nice : ability to quickly change the included or excluded folders, or files filters.

By the way @PPC you are the one that let me discover the “find + rofi oneliner” on a thread here on antiX forum… so… thank you for that, and sorry if my post is not very interesting for you !

@Girafenaine- Sorry if it came out like I paid no attention to your post- I’ve been busy with real life problems, and also developing my FT10 transformation Pack… In fact as used the Rofi script in my toolbar, but I now replaced it with FSearch- rofi is lighter, but FSearch has more features…

@PPC thanks for your message, sorry if you felt my post like some “call for an answer” ! Everyone is free here, has his own real life, and no one is forced to take part in a thread, especially for post “not in the main subject” like was mine…

(And… you can still give a try to my script, which in the future will surely be acknowledge as the best known way to search for files on an everyday basis 🙂 )

@anticapitalista- just to keep you posted- a suggestion I made, searching and running .desktop files, was accepted and implemented by the fsearch developer. It also includes my pt-pt localization (that sadly is now not 100% up to date, due to the recent changes).
Please note that this in no way makes fsearch an “applauncher” like our own app-select – it does not read descriptions from the .desktop files, only the file names, but, even so, is a handy way to start most GUI applications that we know, at least part of the name.

I compiled the latest version, from the source code (something I only did a couple of times), in about 30 seconds, on a single core. It’s very stable, extremely fast and light on resources (I get near instant search results even on a 32bits laptop, that has a hard drive so slow antiX runs way faster in live mode, straight from a USB pen drive)-

                    P-
