Today I ran a “dist-upgrade” and there were some questions about replacements (I think one of them was about slim). I chose “yes”. After reboot, the slim background is different. When I try to sign-in, no matter which desktop I choose, a window opens:

Your window manager was not one of the supported managers. This window is to provide the same function as the Other Desktops Menu.

I use the narrows to choose icewm, but it returns to the first (fluxbox). Moreover, I haven’t found a way to push “OK” (there is not a mouse cursor).

Run antiX live from usb or cd, navigate using rox (as root) to where your install is (probably under /media/) and go to /etc/.
You should see 1 file called slim.conf and another probably called something like slim.conf.old.
Rename slim.conf.old to slim.conf (it will overwrite the existing one).

        Now boot your installed system

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

There seems to be something very wrong with your system (no need to say that)- for me, the main problem in not getting that window, but the lack of mouse pointer.
What I can help you with is trying to push the “ok” button- press the Tab key, until OK is selected (you may also need to use the cursor keys) and then press enter.
The only time something similar happened to me, I had to purge and reinstall the offending Window Manager (it was Fluxbox), that got borked…
Not much help, but it’s the best I can do for now.
If nothing else work, backup your home folder and use the nuclear option (reinstall antiX)

EDIT; anticapitalista ninjaed me to the answer – he not only knows his stuff, he is fast!!!

            Rename slim.conf.old to slim.conf

This changed the background, but didn’t solve the problem.

            Tab key does nothing.

Tab usually changes between selected areas (it usually draws a rectangle on the selected button, that sometimes is hard to notice). If anticapitalista’s advice did not work, if I were you I would try simply to reinstall (that’s why I always have an old 4gb pendrive with antix- it usually takes 20-50 minutes to install antiX… A bit more than that is you use a Dvd… It’s not what you want to hear, but it’s sometimes the quickest way to solve a problem. But, in about 4-5 years, in 6 computers, I think I only had to reinstall once…

I did it. I installed antiX-21 instead of antiX-19. I’ll start a new thread about it. Thanks for your help.
