      : there is no option to choose a background color – no image. I want a desktop background solid color.

        It appears that Antix Wallpaper App sets the background.

        (To keep IceWM from setting a background color/image you simply set both options to an empty string:)
        Thus
        # icewm preferences(1.8.2) – generated by genpref
        # Desktop background image(s)
        DesktopBackgroundImage=””

        # Desktop background color(s)
        DesktopBackgroundColor=””

        Tried this:
        # Desktop background color(s)
        DesktopBackgroundColor=”rgb:00/BF/FF”

        The background started as dark blue and then the image chosen by the Antix Wallpaper App appears. So, how to get rid of the antix app?

          Check out that topic. the answer is in there somewhere. Dave and skidoo helped me sort out how to manipulate the default wallpaper handler.

            there is a search box on the right side of that page. Use the Advanced Search to get a little better selection.

              Thanks Seaken64. I don’t think that I am able to find the answer therein.

              I will try to improve my search technique.

                Here’s the appropriate message by Dave.

                Yes; ~/.desktop-session/wallpaper-list.conf and ~/.desktop-session/wallpaper.conf are the files that are modified by the wallpaper app. Then a bash script runs to set the wallpaper at startup (/usr/local/bin/desktop-session-wallpaper). You can modify those configuration files by hand and run desktop-session-wallpaper and exclude using the gui if you wish.

                  Try this search string:

                  wallpaper solid color rox

                  and restrict the search to Topics only

                  If I recall, if you are using the Rox-IceWM desktop, you will end up needing to create a tiny pic 1×1 of the color you want, and setting that as your wallpaper. If you like Rox-Filer as your file manager, that is the best option. I prefer/use the zzzfm file manager. I have instructions to do it for that one.

                  PS: Dave wrote the program, so Seaken’s reply is likely correct, also.

                    In antiX21 that statement is definitely incorrect. 95% sure in 19.4 same.

                    Control Center –> choose wallpaper
                    Use the Background Menu, Set to No Background.
                    You can then pick a colour after clicking the choose a colour menu bottom left.

                      lots fun eh! I had edited some config files but they seem to be returned to default. Now the pylons.jpg image starts with the session, pauses, and exits. Leaving a nice plain grey background.

                      I had placed some jpg images in /usr/share/wallpaper/ and they worked. I then deleted the ones I added and now the wallpaper app shows the following results roxterm.

                      $ wallpaper
                      Exit: The configured wallpaper is either not a file or does not exist.
                      configured wallpaper: /usr/share/wallpaper/pylons.jpg
                      /usr/share/wallpaper/pylons.jpg

                      $ ls -l /usr/share/wallpaper/

                                  Which version of antiX are you using?
                                  Have you fully updated the packages?

                                  Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

                                  antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.
