My respects to All!
you can tell us:
icewm is configured by editing configs;
this is normal.
accepts.
but there is also a tool for configuring how to use the menu:
click the menu, then preferences.
and here I am in the list of editing options.
when you press enter, the flag next to the option changes and the menu disappears completely.
and to change another option, you need to call the menu again.
is this how it should be?
it doesn’t seem very practical.
or did I miss something?December 12, 2020 at 12:49 pm #47190Member

::I am not an icewm user, so I cannot comment much. For most cases, the window manager configuration requires editing files. Some have developed guis to make it easier, and I think icewm dev decided that a menu would be better. But I think some things configured using the menu (like time and clock format) don’t remain after reboot.
you can read the icewm manual if you are interested to know more:

::Hi ThakurMsh, if you are meaning hide or show items the tool from the controll center allows multiple selections.
The tool works for the applications you install with apt, synaptic, antix installer, gdebi. For adding personal menu Items, you have a tool in the antiX menu. That is single item only.
To hide or show some menu items coming directly from Icewm the icewm settings in the control center opens the relevant
text files for editing.Lot of options take a little while to get used to.
Hope I understood exactly what you meant, if not please just ask some more.
I am icewm user so can I hope with your patience figure out how to do what you need.

Perhaps a screenshot would help.December 12, 2020 at 1:58 pm #47206Member

::I’ve been studying for a week icewm and I found out that he was really cool.
I can compare.
I used fvwm, fluxbox, wm2, 9wm, openbox, herbstluftwm, jwm, spectrwm )))
I understand that configuration is done by editing configs.
but there is another option and I’m exploring it
I press menu: output, theme, preferences, focus,………
choosing preferences
show
in show about 20 points. each one either has or doesn’t have a flag in front of it.
how do these flags change?..after one change of one flag, the entire menu disappears.- This reply was modified 2 years, 4 months ago by ThakurMsh.

::llamo al menú y hay elementos: salida, temas, preferencias,…..

after one change of one flag, the entire menu disappears. That is how the Preferences menu works. It makes a change and restarts icewm in a second so that the change takes effect. That is why the menu dissapears. For example, in the Show > ShowHelp option, if you enable it you will see a new option in the Menu with icewm help manual links (which doesn’t work for me, but that is a different issue).
The change takes place and icewm needs to restart so you can see the change (so the menu needs to be closed). That is how it works. From: https://ice-wm.org/FAQ/
ConfigurationWhen you are runnign IceWM you can switch themes via the Start Menu button in the bottom left corner. Some options can be changed on the fly via the Preferences Menu. Don’t forget to select Save Modifications. Most options require a restart of icewm to be effective via Logout -> Restart IceWM.
Configuring IceWM usually requires editing text config files. See the icewm and preferences man pages.

::Yes, but make sure to “Save Modifications” at the bottom of the Preferences menu before restarting IceWM if you want your changes saved.
Originally, IceWM configuration was maintained by editing the config files (in antiX from Control Centre, Desktop Tab, Edit IceWM Settings), but in newer versions of IceWM the Preferences menu was added with the ability to change many settings.
In addition to the IceWM provided Preferences options, antiX has customizer programs to customize the menus and toolbar which are on the Applications, antiX and Applications, Preferences menus.

::It was just a quote from the site linked, without modification. No ill intentions.
I don’t know barely anything about icewm, so I was trying to direct to the manual. Sorry if my comments we not useful. If you don’t get any answers here after some time you can ask the icewm dev

::The program just goes back to the menu after each option is changed, and doesn’t allow multiple ones to be changed at one time.
It would be easier to go edit the configuration file, save it, and restart if you are comfortable editing and want to make some changes. Then restart IceWM.

@moddit,
if you can, you can tell me how to change the height taskbar?- This reply was modified 2 years, 4 months ago by ThakurMsh.

::Change TaskBarGraphHeight in preferences… You would need to Edit the config files to change that one. You also could override it by putting it in prefoverride instead of preferences.
