What is the best way to setup a static IP address in antix 17? I tried going into etc/network/ interfaces comenting out the DHCP line and setting up a static IP address following instructions in the Debian wiki. Very easy. When I restart my computer I get a DHCP IP address instead of the static address I set up. Might it be that the wicd daemon is loading, and what about cemi? I’m confused as to what to do. Use cemi, wicd, or /etc/network/interfaces.

I don’t mind starting from the beginning as long as someone can outline for me step by step what to do.

When I type if config in the terminal I get my DHCP IP address instead of the static address described above.

I would like to use the wicd gtk interface to set up my static IP. Seems pretty straight forward.

      Thanks!!

I suggested preventing wicd from starting up (edit /etc/default/wicd …there is a startup setting in there) and set up your static ip address only with ceni (which is the same as editing /etc/network).

conversely, if you want to use wicd to do this, then remove all entries from /etc/network/interfaces except the lo interface, and use only wicd.

either of those steps should remove the possible conflict in setups.

          Hello,
          antix base 19.1 64bits

I try to configure a static ip address for eth0 with ceni ; it works fine, /etc/network/interfaces contains the good entries and ifconfig returns my static ip address.
But like rmcellig, when I restart the machine, ip address of eth0 has its dhcp value back.

          Explanation :
In order to configure my network interface eth0, I opened “Control Center – Network – Network interfaces (Ceni)” and entered desired values.
Problem was that after restart of the machine, eth0 had its DHCP address back, even if my static IP address was indicated in “/etc/network/interfaces”.
In fact, with antix 19 base and full, in order to configure your network interfaces (wired ones and Wifi), you have to open “Control Center – Network – Wifi Connexion (Connman)”, then “Details” menu entry and “Configuration’ button.
