I have setup my wifi network with Ceni and I have not any wifi icon in tray for now. Sometimes my wifi connection is going down (router’s side, not the OS’s side) and I want easy way to check if my laptop connected to router via wifi or not. Can you advice me simple wifi icon/applet in tray, or other easy way to quickly check it, please?

::Do you use conky? If so, if you are connected, it will show in the default conky (default meaning the default items shown in the conky).
Do you use icewm? If so, the panel applet in the lower right shows (among other things) the network status.confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

::Oh, both Conky and icewm panel applet has constantly moving images, that distracts me from work. I want something more static, like Wicd icon, if possible.

::Enable Conky or the toolbar for a moment to check network manager and then hide them from view to avoid distractions.

::Options, in your home .icewm folder you can set/unset many functions.
It is really worthwhile to become familiar with the possibilitys. You can Set toolbar to autohide, assuming ICEWM to avoid distraction
but that will not tell you network is down.I am pretty sure there is a way to show the Connman
network active, connected disconnected icon but no time now to search.# Auto hide task bar after delay.
TaskBarAutoHide=1 # 0/1Stop showing the network monitor in taskbar
# Show network status on task bar.
TaskBarShowNetStatus=0 # 0/1I am pretty sure there is a setting to show the Connman
network connected symbol but no time now to test.If you search you may be able to find a conky script line
to only show network down. Code Depending on hardware so you may
have to experiment. To disable the conky network display just place a hash symbol #
in front of the relevant codeline. Or if you wish disable conky
altogether.A sound event for network down might be a helpful option

::@ Mad-Daimond
Just tested your simple icon wish. :-).
In the connman control window, preferences you can mark
System Tray Notifications. That will show a Network
connected/disconnected Icon in the ICEWM toolbar. I did
not check other desktops.October 9, 2022 at 2:48 am #90398ModeratorBobC
::If you are running one of the IceWM desktops, in the system tray, at the right end is the clock. To the left of the clock is the CPU monitor, Memory monitor, Network monitor(s), and then the Battery monitor if it has one. If you hover over the Network monitors the status pops up for that network adapter.

::If you are willing to switch to ‘connman’, then you could use ‘cmst’.
‘apt-cache search cmst’ outputs (among others): QT GUI for Connman with system tray icon
I use it in fluxbox, need to add-to/uncomment-in ‘~/.desktop-session/startup’.‘apt-cache search ceni’: Curses interface to ‘/etc/network/interfaces’.
Curses implies text-based, i.e. I’d guess from that it is rather unlikely for a tray-icon/GUI to exist. -
