::I just installed slimjet to a 64bit antiX system to try to help. During installation, I got:
update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/flashpeak-slimjet to provide /usr/bin/x-www-browser (x-www-browser) in auto mode update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/flashpeak-slimjet to provide /usr/bin/gnome-www-browser (gnome-www-browser) in auto mode update-alternatives: using /usr/bin/flashpeak-slimjet to provide /usr/bin/google-chrome (google-chrome) in auto modeThen I set it up with Control Centre > Desktop > Preferred Applications -> browser>slimjet.desktop
and finally
xdg-settings set default-web-browser slimjet.desktop
then xdg-open opens in slimjet.
I will try to install it on a 32 bit VM and see if I also experience your problem.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::Followed the same process using antiX 19.2.1 base i386.
My guess is that palemoon has broken something, referenced to:
/usr/bin/xdg-mime: 913: local: Moon-ZX359Y.desktop: bad variable name
I would check ~/.config/mimeapps.list and remove the palemoon entry or edit it. Change all Palemoon entries to slimjet.desktop
Example:text/html=slimjet.desktop x-scheme-handler/http=slimjet.desktop x-scheme-handler/https=slimjet.desktop x-scheme-handler/about=slimjet.desktop x-scheme-handler/unknown=slimjet.desktopantiX Live system enthusiast.

::Success!!
That worked.
Now, when I open an url with Password Safe, it opens in slimjet.
Also, Slimjet no longer asks to be the default browser, because it actually is the default.
Thank you so much for your helpDell Latitude D620 laptop with antiX 22 (64 bit)

::So was the problem that Palemoon had taken control of a setting? Was Palemoon installed after SlimJet?

I do not know but maybe Xecure can explain what may have happened.
Palemoon was installed before Slimjet as I recall.

::I really have no idea. My guess is that palemoon .desktop launcher has a space in the name (Pale Moon-ZX359Y.desktop or something similar). /usr/bin/xdg-mime finds it impossible to read it with a space, so it stops working and defaults to a different configuration before starting to read the slimjet configuration.
I am making this explanation up, as I have no idea what the real problem may be.
The only thing important is that slimjet now works as default browser.antiX Live system enthusiast.

::@Xecure
Is it OK to continue using Palemoon and to update it?
Or, will it create another problem with Slimjet if I use it?Dell Latitude D620 laptop with antiX 22 (64 bit)

::I am not really sure if what I said was what happened. Next time you update PaleMoon, or you want to use it, change the name of the .desktop file for it in /usr/share/application so that there is no spaces inside the name. Example:
original: Pale Moon.desktop
Change to: Pale_Moon.desktopWorst case scenario is you having to edit the ~/.config/mimeapps.list again, so no real loss now that you know where to look.
If things go wrong again, we at the forum can try to give a hand.

::Instead of:
original: Pale Moon.desktop
Change to: Pale_Moon.desktopHow about:
original: PaleMoon.desktop
Change to: PaleMoon.desktopWhy use either space or punctuation in the desktop name?
