      Hi friends,

I just installed the new Antix 19. Congratulations!!! looks very beautiful and responsive.

However a have two minor problems:

1- When boot stops a few seconds looking for eth0

2- The Fn keys are not working.

      Any advice?

You have to give us more info about your hardware, antiX version (full, base 32/64 bit) etc.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

          Yes, yes, sorry.

I installed now the liquorix kernel, but the problem is the same with the standard kernel:

              I did

              #auto eth0
              #iface eth0 inet dhcp

              without success

The massage here when boot is:

configuring network interfaces...ifup: waiting for lock on /run/network/ifstate.eth0

Yes Anti, I have internet, everything is working well in my system except the Fn keys. This issue is that the system stops around 10-15 seconds on this line looking for something when boots.

I mean you should use connman ui to turn off wired.

(Exactly 48 seconds waiting for the eth0)

Any advice to enable the brightness Fn keys?

Anti, this release looks really astonishing!! Congratulations!!!

Try using the files in the link.
Keep a copy of your old ones, just in case you need to re-use them.
Firstly, try /etc/init.d/networking and if that doesn’t solve the problem, add the interfaces file.

                        extra-core.tgz

About Fn keys, I don’t know – someone else will need to help you on this.

Yes, working with the networking file! Thank you very much, Anti!!

Now waiting for a solution for the Fn keys. I’m going to go blind with so much light… 🙂

On this laptop is installed MX Linux 18.3, and everything is working fine. Maybe is there a solution from MX Linux?

Also in MX Linux the Liquorix 5.2 kernel is working fine, In Antix I have to use the 4.20 because I have not wifi with the 5.2.
                          Something is different in Antix.

MX-18.3 is stretch based and antiX-19 is buster based so there lies the main difference.

Now waiting for a solution for the Fn keys

Maybe it is not that the FN key combinations are not working but that they aren’t configured for your Window Manager. Remember that in antiX you are using a Window Manager and not a Desktop Environment, so some things you need to configure them yourself.
I use to believe that xev was the command tool used to check what were the “key commands” related to a key combination, but I just tried it out for FN combinations and it doesn’t work as I remember.

Some time ago I configured my “keys” file for my window manager (fluxbox) to pick up FN + UP/DOWN to increase/decrease volume, and FN + RIGHT/LEFT to increase/decrease screen brightness. They weren’t configured initially.
I can see that IceWM (I am assuming you are using this window manager) now includes Increase/decrease volume as:

key "XF86AudioLowerVolume" amixer sset Master 5%-
key "XF86AudioRaiseVolume" amixer sset Master 5%+

These should be related to FN+(key) combination for your keyboard (for mine it is FN + UP/DOWN). Test it out. If this combination works for you but others don’t, it means that your FN keys are not working as you expected because they haven’t been set (yet).

For the increase/decrease brightness, add this piece of code to your keys file (I am assuming IceWM, with the file located in ~/.icewm/keys)

                              ###Set brightness
                              key "XF86MonBrightnessDown" backlight-brightness -10
                              key "XF86MonBrightnessUp" backlight-brightness +10

Save, restart IceWM session and see if it works.

If this works, then you know that FN keys ARE working but are not configured in the Window Manager.

PD: Does anyone know of a terminal command to see how keystrokes are translated to key “commands” and trhat works with FN key combinations?

These two lines were missed on the Keys file on IceWM. Added and working!!!
