      Regarding XMMS and SpaceFM/zzzFM

If original XMMS is long abandoned and XMMS2 already took over (seemingly), why is legacy XMMS still shipped by default?
Or perhaps legacy XMMS is still a bit maintained and XMMS2 is way too different… many guesses after some internet searches, but I fail to understand for sure, so I ask for a bit of help.

I saw SpaceFM/zzzFM have GTK2 and GTK3 versions, though the first is the one default shipped. Is there a particular reason for “preferring” GTK2 one over GTK3 one? Or, what are the differences between GTK2 and GTK3?

      Thanks beforehand.

        Regarding GTK2 vs. GTK3:
        – GTK2 has reached EOL; Wikipedia lists 3.24 and 4.4 as the only maintained versions [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GTK#Releases].
        – Migrating from GTK2 to GTK3 is not for free (i.e. takes effort).
This could be an interesting general-purpose read:

Regarding XMMS vs XMMS2, my guesses are:
        1) Size:
antiX developers try to reduce the size of the ISO, preferably to fit to a CD (easier install on old computers with no DVD).
        2) Maturity:
My antiX testing shows that XMMS2 is version 0.8 (‘apt-cache policy xmms xmms2’).
Perhaps, XMMS2 is not regarded as fully mature yet by some since the version 0.8 indicates “We do not feel confident enough to release 1.0 yet.”
Version 1.0 is often regarded as sufficiently mature; but some authors approach the version numbering differently.
        3) Plugins?
Counting the available plugins (‘apt-cache policy xmms | grep plugin | wc -l’ and the same repeated for ‘xmms2’) reveals no big difference XMMS = 50, XMMS2 = 49.
Does not include any non-standard plugins in repositories I have not included.

I have tried XMMS2 in a distant past and I did not find it as easy as XMMS GUI interface (to which I was already used to).
