Since streamlight can download and run YouTube videos, what is the reason to use smtube instead. Is it lighter in memory usage?

Streamlight is not a player, it is a helper application,

        excerpt from the main script
        https://gitlab.com/antiX-Linux/streamlight-antix/-/blob/master/bin/streamlight.sh

Video streams are handled via Streamlink which automatically loads
a plugin for each of the supported service providers. The video can
be saved to a file or directly played in MPV video player.

OT: For youtube IMHO nothing beats ytfzf in combination with MPV using a decent
        MPV config.

Agreed. Using antiX, I was introduced to ytfzf. Loving it.

            Thanks, Xunzi_23 and techore,

            I will try ytfzf…
