::OK.,also please look in control-centre under hardware then soundsystem or adjust mixer if anything is muted or at zero
and also if you right-klick on your volume icon in taskbar, going to preferences, what is there for “device” and “chanel” ?Do the two commands from #9146 show the same output with the new kernel?
Please also the output of
dmesg | grep snd
and for to look which chip your motherboard uses
cat /proc/asound/car*/co* | grep CodecApril 18, 2018 at 9:08 pm #9386Member

::$ lsmod | grep snd
snd_hda_codec_hdmi 57344 1
snd_hda_codec_realtek 81920 1That looks to me like you may have two competing sound outputs, run alsamixer, F6 to change output, & see if you get sound.
(If you do, you will need to set up the default for your output.)Linux (& BSD) since 1999

::Well, cant find anything in the outputs that looks wrong to me.
So i still believe its a settings problem.Did you right-click on the volume-icon in the taskbar, preferences, which channel is selected there? At least you could try to install pulseaudio with the package-installer and afterwards pavucontrol with synyaptic, which sometimes is more comfortable for choosing the right outputs.
Edit: Forgot to mention, for to start the pulseaudio server you have to
pulseaudio --start
For to make it autostart at every boot you have to edit the autostart-file in your hidden /.desktop-session folder in home with
pulseaudio --start &
Good luck!- This reply was modified 5 years ago by caprea.

::This sounds similar to a problem I had last week.
I installed Antix 17 32-bit but went for Sid/unstable as I was just seeing if this old Acer laptop would be any good for AntiX. It runs nicely but I could not get sound going at all. And I was very used to configuring sound with AntiX as I have been running it on a desktop machine and a netbook for about 6 months. My obsession is audio so I am regularly plugging in USB headphones then switching back to the default Intel soundcard etc. So I have got used to the quirks of AntiX and the usefulness of the configuration options that AntiX has baked in (middle click on volume icon to get alsamixer, right click on volume icon to change soundcard plus the very useful Sound Card Test mini app).
I was completely stumped when I could not get sound working, especially as it is a dual boot with an old Lubuntu install and I heard sound working on there earlier in the day.
And, to get to the point… I eventually plugged USB headphones in to the laptop to see if they would work. They did work. But then I was also able to switch to the main sound card and the original sound issue had resolved itself.
So I haven’t got as clue why that happened – I noticed that you mentioned using the Testing repos and I am using Unstable, so maybe it’s just a weird bug.
But that’s my suggestion anyway – plug in some USB headphones – then see if that resolves the problem with the main soundcard.
Good luck!!

::I would certainly try the above post solution, and further I concur with caprea
Install pulseaudio and pavucontrol and their dependencies.
then follow the instrutions here: Starting at heading
Useful Commands
`Hopefully that will resolve your sound issue.

::A while ago I had sound problems too. I use ALSA only – no Pulseaudio.
In the audio settings of Audacious the PCM-device can be chosen.
There was no sound with the setting ‘default’, but normal sound with ‘sysdefault’.
Alsaplayer and videoplayers produced no sound at all.
Alsaplayer-gtk started from the terminal showed a request for libasound2-plugin-equal.
I installed libasound2-plugin-equal and now have sound in Alsaplayer-gtk, in Audacious at PCM-device ‘default’ and with videoplayers.
Maybe libasound2-plugin-equal solves your problem too. These are the audio packages on my system:
alsa-utils alsamixer-equalizer-antix alsamixergui volumeicon-alsa-legacy
libasound2 libasound2-data libasound2-plugins libasound2-plugin-equal
(libasound2-plugin-smixer libasound2:i386 – both probably not neccassary)
apulse (for sound in browsers with ALSA instead of Pulseaudio)
alsaplayer-alsa alsaplayer-common alsaplayer-gtk (great sound quality – low on features)
audacious audacious-plugins audacious-plugins-data (mediocre sound quality – great features)
sox libsox3 libsox-fmt-alsaMaybe check Arch Wiki on ALSA:
