Yeah, our temperatures since the beginning of July have decreased by a few degrees but our humidity has increased much more than the temperature has decreased and as a result, we have threatening thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening for a few days. In fact, if you look at the short weather summary, it is showing the unbrella icon, indicative of a chance of showers, for the remainder of the week. The National Weather Service (NWS) forecast from our nearly regional airport weather service confirms these predictions in their regional forecast for this week.

Just looking at the weather conditions in Clinton Township, Michigan (about twenty miles from downtown Detroit) compared to the Mountain Shadows Station, both using the Wunderground Personal Weather Servers (PWS) that typify Wunderground. The temperatures are fairly close; it actually is within a degree; the humidity today is nearly 20 points higher – 46% humidity at the Waldenburg Station in Clinton Twp vs. the Mountain Shadows Station within a few: miles of where I live now, which is showing 65% humidity. Dew points have a similar “difference”; would-be weather enthusiasts or meteorologists know that

“The dew point is the temperature the air needs to be cooled to (at constant pressure) in order to achieve a relative humidity (RH) of 100%. At this point the air cannot hold more water in the gas form. If the air were to be cooled even more, water vapor would have to come out of the atmosphere in the liquid form, usually as fog or precipitation.” Source: http://www.weather.gov/arx/why_dewpoint_vs_humidity
