Dear All,
When I do a speedtest with Google Chrome in antiX 21, I always have a bad result for the download test. My curve always collapses. I should have 125 mbps all the time.
If I do the same test with the same Google Chrome version in MX Linux 19.4, my download test is very good and my curve does not collapse.
If I do the same test with the same Google Chrome version in Windows 10, my download test is very good and my curve does not collapse.
Why do I have a bad result with antiX 21? If you have an idea to share…

::Hi @Wallon,
I cannot reproduce. On my machine, google-chrome-stable in antiX21 produces a flat curve using speedtest.net to produce 44.16 mbps download and 27.0 mpbs upload. Firefox in the same anti21 system using speedtest.net also produces a flat curve with 47.38 mpbs download and 26.96 mpbs upload.Using windows 10 on the same machine using speedtest.net I also get a flat curve with 50.86 mpbs download and 20.17 mpbs upload.
Perhaps it is something unique with your antiX21 setup.

::@Wallon: I have found that any differences, other than small differences, tend to be more affected by time of day, workload on the Internet service provider network and the amount of network, rather than the choice of browser or other variables.
The network I’m using right now is pretty consistent. I haven’t gone and produced reports, but I see no need to do so because my overall browser performance is reasonably consistent across different browser versions, different distributions, and even different hardware.
Speed variations, while slight, are more because of heavy Web traffic or the use of really old hardware in my case.
Otherwise I’m happy whether using Firefox, Chrome, Chromium, Opera, Seamonkey or Palemoon. A few other browsers work fine too.

::Dear All,
I removed Google Chrome and deleted the Google directory in the hidden “.config” directory.
I reinstalled Google Chrome without installing extensions and without synchronizing with my account. I still have the same disappointing result with antiX for downloading.
Note, it is only with antiX that I have this problem. I never get a good download even if I am alone on the modem with cable.
I always have a bad result in the morning, at noon or in the evening or during the night.I would like to understand why I have this problem with antiX and not with my Android Smartphone or Windows or MX Linux.
Best regards,

::Dear All,
I also installed Chromium version 102 under antiX 21. There is no synchronisation and no extension installed in Chromium.
The result is not good for downloading as with Google Chrome. You can see the curve that drops very steeply during the test on the screenshot.Best regards,

::Hi @Wallon,
Perhaps other members on the forum may have better suggestions.For me, I think the first thing I would try is to copy the ~/.config/google-chrome folder in the MX linux setup that has google-chrome working for you and copy to the antiX system that you have. (In any case, I would save that folder as a good backup because it has all your extensions and setup.) And then try to launch google-chrome and try it out. If it works, great.
If not, try a different browser in your antiX system, like firefox or librewolf. And then try to do the speedtest. If it works, then the problem is unique to google-chrome on that antiX system.
If trying other browsers produces a bad speedtest on this antiX system, then it may be your antiX system setup. In this case, I would back up important files and folders first. Then do a complete reinstall of antiX.
This is just my own opinion.

::@Wallon: I’m sorry that you have been having issues with Chrome.
I’m not sure what your tolerance for problems and issues are, but when there are usable alternatives it may be more productive to use them, remove Chrome completely, and if you wish, take a month or two away and try again.
I’d understand completely if you forget it entirely.

::Dear Brian,
I have also the problem with Opera.
Please see the screenshoot.
Apparently, all Chromium-based browsers have a problem with the download in antiX.Best regards,

::@Wallon: If you are having that many problems with Chrome-based browsers, maybe it’s time to see which browsers DO work effectively for you.
I don’t see the problems you have, but I’ve managed to put a few config changes into Palemoon 31.0.0 and it behaves similarly to Firefox with a somewhat smaller memory footprint. With the config changes, most other things, particularly using this forum and Webmail (which comprises the bulk of my computing activity these days), work nicely there, and also in Firefox, though I have no problems using Google Chrome, Chromium, or Ungoogled-Chromium.
I hope you find success with another alternative.

::https://github.com/sivel/speedtest-cli
use the “Just download” install method and copy to $PATH ie /usr/local/bin/
That way you can test your speed independently of a browser and see if you notice an improvement.
For what its worth, I cant reproduce your error on antiX 19.5, I get the same speed (no drop-off at the end) using chrome and firefox.

::Dear Brian,
I used an anti-XLive USB stick. I installed Google Chrome on the Live key.
The results are very good as you can see on the screenshot.
I have to install antiX again. I probably broke antiX with the tests for the FT10 package. I don’t know where this comes from.In Wallonia, the internet providers give a standard contract for individuals with an upload speed of 6.5 Mbps (VOO provider) or 25 Mbps (Proximus provider).
We know that Belgium is underdeveloped compared to your country. This poses problems for economic development. We do not have any distance selling sites like Amazon for example. Moreover, night work is forbidden to prepare parcels! It’s a shame because the government says there are too many people unemployed but the government does nothing for economic development!

::Dear All,
I have just done a new installation of antiX 21 full.
I installed Google Chrome without synchronisation, without any extension, without any bookmark.
Very big disappointment, the speedtest is bad.
I don’t understand why on a Live antiX 21 full USB stick, the speedtest with Google Chrome is excellent on a wired connection.
As soon as I do a fresh installation, the speedtest with Google Chrome is bad on wired connection.
Is there a change in the software that handles the internet between the installation ISO and an upgrade after installing antiX?If you have an idea to share?

::Dear All,
I have just received an update for connman.
connman (1.40-1.0antix1 => 1.41-1.0antix1)
I installed and rebooted my desktop.I did a new speedtest but it’s still bad with antiX 21 Full installed and Google Chrome.
For information, I have exactly the same phenomenon on my old AMD laptop. I have antiX19.4 and the speedtest with Google Chrome is bad. If I use a live antiX21 key on the old laptop, the speedtest with Google Chrome is excellent!
I have to thank the person who sent the new version of connman to see if the problem was there.
As I have this problem on 2 computers, I will not be the only one to notice this curiosity.
Best regards,
Wallon -
