      @Brian, for my desktop running antiX testing-repository I have the “Plugable USB Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy Micro Adapter” and it works so far very good.

        Good ideas Skidoo. On your advice I took a look at both sites. While I have purchased several items at Newegg in the past, they seem to have somewhat higher prices on Bluetooth adapters than Amazon for some reason.

        Since I have never purchased a Bluetooth USB adapter I am taking my time, and I am not determined to get one; depending on the research and recommendations, I may opt out. If the prices for legitimate units with useful performance are over $20, I probably will not get anything. I don’t need a fancy device, but one reason I am considering one is that the Bluetooth adapter in my Dell Inspiron laptop works with Endeavor OS and openSUSE but fails to work properly with MX Linux, antiX and Debian. If I use a plug my headset works; if I use USB or Bluetooth USB it does not work with the same headset. Since I have alternatives I may not do anything other than investigate possible options and what they would cost. No need for anyone to “research” themselves unless they have their own personal interest.

          Perfect! Amazon.com charges $13.95 for the device; WalMart has it online for $15.95 and Newegg has it for $20.95. Looks like Amazon has one of the best deals unless I can find another reliable reseller. One very good thing about Amazon.com is that they have been sending Amazon Prime trucks to our community within 48 hours or less for many purchases, at least if suppliers have the inventory available.

            Good news / Bad news!

            On my Dell Inspiron 5558 laptop I have found additional distributions that DO not only activate Bluetooth correctly, they actually work with Bluetooth headphones and specifically with my Soundcore Life Q10 Bluetooth headphones!

            The list of distros that work include

            – MX Linux 19.3 KDE Edition
            – Endeavor OS
            – Peppermint Linux
            – openSUSE

            The fact that these work is further proof that the headphones work with Linux and Bluetooth. They also work with Pixel 3 and Chromebook models such as the Acer Chromebook 715.

            Something got messed up on my other MX Linux, Debian and my antiX distros that I have NOT been able to isolate, even after doing a ‘cp -rf /lib/firmware’ from a ‘workimg’ /lib/firmware to more than one of the failing versions.

            The fact that one of the MX Linux versions works is evidence that the technology works.

            Next step is cleaning everything else.
            Since one of the MX Linux instances works I may try comparing the two MX Linux Bluetooth setups and resolve differences, try it again and if I can get both working I will then replicate the working solution to all of the other ones.

            I’ll get this YET!

            My skills are a bit rusty but I still have the means to figure it out and when I get it 100% right I will publish my findings.

              MX Linux 19.3 KDE Edition

              Uses the same firmware files as antiX (or they are only a bit more updated). The only difference (a part from systemd presence and a DE) is the kernel version. Did you try to install the same version in antiX as the one used in MX Linux? I think this will probably lead to a possible resolution.

                I want to get the MX Linux 19.3 Xfce desktop environment working again with Bluetooth headphones and once that works I will be able to make the others work too, assuming I find what has been wrong!

                The main reason I want to do this is that something changed and I want to know what it was and hopefully what caused it so that I can easily fix it if it happens again.

                  Woo hoo! I found the “magic” that got MX Linux 19.3 to work once again with Bluetooth Soundcore Life Q10 headphones!

                  Link to the solution: https://askubuntu.com/questions/801404/bluetooth-connection-failed-blueman-bluez-errors-dbusfailederror-protocol-no

                  SPECIFIC details that got it going on MX Linux:

                  “What did work for me was this: (as pointed above by Sebastian Widz)

                  $ sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio
                  $ rm -rf ~/.config/pulse && sudo killall pulseaudio
                  $ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio
                  $ pulseaudio –start
                  The above to ensure pulse is working first.
                  Then, this one, which is a bit weird that doesn’t come by default with pulseaudio itself:

                  $ sudo apt-get install pulseaudio-module-bluetooth
                  $ pactl load-module module-bluetooth-discover
                  A bit redundant I know, but these were the exact steps that worked for me 10 minutes ago.
                  But OK, at least it works now :)”

                    This test video works now on MX Linix (both Xfce and KDE versions).
                    Now to apply the same fix to the antiX and Debian distros too!
