      Hello,

I installed Antix-21 on a SSD (with X) and I’m trying to set up the starting procedure to boot to the terminal (with login access on terminal).

I tried to modify the Grub option (with “text” bootcode in the kernel line) without success. slimski is lauching …
I tried “CRT+ALTS+F1” to close the X services but without success. After “CTRL+ALT+F1”, I go to a new terminal but the GUI (tty F7) is always in memory.
I tried to play with “init 3” but nothing …

My aim is clearly, by default, to boot in a minimum terminal (console + wifi) to have the most minimum impact in memory. But If needed, I would have the possibility to start X.

There is a simple way to adjust Antix for that ?

      Regards.

      Rémy

Log into a terminal as root and run the service management tool sysv-rc-conf to disable slimski (remove all x marks).

alternatively if you are always going to run from console… you can remove slimski and run startx /usr/local/bin/desktop-session rox-icewm where rox-icewm is the desktop code. (could also be space-icewm, icewm, rox-fluxbox, etc).

Depending how minimal you want an X session you could also get rid of desktop-session and build your session manually in ~/.xinitrc and run just startx with no arguments

Computers are like air conditioners. They work fine until you start opening Windows. ~Author Unknown

boot uses the concept of “runlevels” https://wiki.debian.org/RunLevel and antix is configured to [[[by default]]] boot in/to runlevel 5

can override the default by editing grub boot line and appending a numeric argument to specify a different desired runlevel

or like Admin described can use the terminal utility named sysv-rc-conf [[[manpage available]]] to review and edit which services shall autostart for each runlevel. Editing the details of runlevel 5 avoids the need to edit grub boot line.

edit /etc/inittab and change the 5 to a 3 under # The default runlevel, ie id:3:initdefault:

Thanks a lot for yours answers.

I well adjusted the runlevel2 for my needs (minimum CLI) with sysv-rc-conf.

I modified /etc/inittab for booting Antix on runlevel2.

And to switch from runlevel2 to runlevel5 (complete GUI), I just need to enter init 5 in the terminal.

              Simple and efficient.

              Thanks.
