Hi, I have one LG external drive that stores all my pics and backups of my documents…

      Some background:

I recently loaded it to my ex wife, that uses Windows only computers. She complained she could open the pictures and view them, but not copy them…
I told her that if she could view the files, the drive was ok, it was her computer’s fault…
She copied the files she wanted and gave the drive back to me. I pluged it into my Tv and it worked fine (it’s formated in FAT, so TV’s can play its pictures and sound files)….

      The problem:

…But today I was trying to backup stuff from my desktop to that external drive and I got this error from SpaceFM:

Finished with error ( exit status 13 )

      $MFTMirr does not match $MFT (record 0).
Failed to mount '/dev/sdb1': Input/output error
NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a
SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows
then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very
important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate
it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g.
/dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation
      for more details.

Rox could not mount the drive.

Trying to manually mount the drive also failed…

My netbook still has it’s original windows 7 pro installed in a small partition, so, I booted into it. It read the Drive fine…

Any ideas how to make it work again it my computers? It’s my main backup drive…

Since this happen in both my antiX 19.X 64 bits, I don’t think it’s work adding both computer’s inxi…

      P.

Edit: a bit more googling solved my problem:

      sudo ntfsfix /dev/sdb1

How the hell did I end up needing to use a ntfs tool on a drive that used to be formated in fat???

In advance of whatever ten (different) stab-in-the-dark replies we might post here,
this is really a situation in which you should
        websearch “linux repair ntfs disk”
and take note of the inherent risks, and YMMV result from using various utilities.

Thanks for explaining the solution you found.

used to be formated in fat

Maybe while the drive was connected to the LG TV, someone watched the movie “Gremlins”, and…

( it is joke. okay you laugh now. )

            hi PPC,
because W,Doze is for maximising profit not for users. yeh I know, but it is about making it
hard for users to use other systems. not as bad as the rotten fruit with a bite but still
a pain in the area which smells like redmond.

As Skidoo said thanks for explaining the fix. Also for others NTFS is either inconsistent,
or there is a hardware fault, or it’s a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware.
Missing is a certain company screwing you because you have the gall to use other products……
