New to Antix Linux, old computer and some searching said Antix would work on quite old machines, which it is, yay! Pentium M 1.5GHz 1G ram (looking for some DDR sodimms to up it to 2G).

After some trial and error installing along with Windows XP, wouldn’t boot, just let it install on whole drive.

Both with the live boot, and now with the installed system, I have a strange view of the desktop. Monitor is a 1920×1080 and it sees that (says res: 1920×1080 at top right) but the menu or taskbar is about 1/3 up from bottom, and only goes 2/3 from left side. Making a program full screen only fills the part above the taskbar. I can expand the screen beyond in both directions, but the taskbar stays in place and is on top of the expanded window.

NO idea how/what/where to look to update/fix this, please be as specific as possible. Thanks.

That is unusual. I have not seen that before. Can you please share your system info with us? Use “inxi -Fxz” at the terminal and copy and paste here.

With XP you usually have to repartition/reformat the hard drive and leave some space unpartitioned. And then reinstall XP, then install Linux/antiX. Or, alternative is to install a second hard drive for Linux and leave the XP hard drive alone.

        Welcome to antiX.

          Hello, RichE.

If it were me, I’d logout & back in. If that didn’t solve it, I’d reboot.
At that point.. I’d hope that it is already solved!

Try those things, at least it’s something until someone who may have an idea chimes in. 😉

            hello RichE and everyone

            I have had that,
Only when two display monitor devices were attached in use.
            Do you have multiple displays?
“DDR sodimms” is a notebook or mini mini. is there a notebook display of native resolution (where the ice taskbar position is located at the edge of the native display resolutuion)?
Does it do this for all desktop choices? for instance, where is the fluxbox toolbar located if the Desktop is switched to fluxbox?
What information does the arandr screen appear to know? can you show arandr screenshot?
            show output of ?
            inxi -G
            ?

Yes, ile is probably right. If there were 2 overlapping displays it might look like that.

Try Menu, Control Centre, Session tab, Set screen resolution, then look at outputs and see if more than 1 is active and overlapping

                hello BobC, Seaken64, christophe, everyone
                hello RichE
                Along with welcome to antiX
I hope to say welcome to fluxbox.
switch to a fluxbox Desktop, Other Desktops. right-click for a menu. Fluxbox settings, Configuration, Toolbar, Toolbar width set it to forty 40 or smaller.
Fluxbox settings, Configuration, Toolbar, Placement set it to BottomRight.
If you do not see the fluxbox Toolbar, then set Placement to BottomLeft.
It will show on one of those left or right.
adjust the width when it shows.
                Welcome to fluxbox.

Or you icewm guys can fight out the taskbar position in icewm.
                The more i use jwm the more i like it. jwm seems very well suited default for non-persistent live antiX. Desktop choices are just a few clicks;
I do fluxbox. Welcome to fluxbox.

His screen shot shows that he is running rox-icewm.

I think any of the window managers would have the same problem.

As other have mentioned, this is related to dual screens, for example laptop display + external display.
Your smaller monitor is set as “Primary”, so it manages the icewm panel and window size.
Launch arandr, as pointed out bu ile, (Control Centre > Session > Set screen resolution). Using the top menu, navigate to Outputs > External monitor (whatever port it is using, for example HDMI-1) > Primary. Move the monitor a bit (or resize it) and click Apply button. It should “magically” change the big display to the primary display, changing the size and position of the panel and windows.

I agree. I think the system is configured with the laptop screen on the left and external one on the right, so physically set it up that way if you can.

You must get used to the program ARandR. For changing resolution and external monitor.
