      Hello everyone,
I just wanted to install the latest version available of AntiX Linux (17.1) on a Toshiba Satellite S1620CDS laptop:

ATI Rage LT Pro graphic chip with external VGA connector
      AMD K6-2+ 475MHz CPU
      4GB IDE disk
      160 MB RAM

The biggest problem with this CPU is that it lacks both pae and cmov. AntiX seems to be packaged for non-pae CPUs, but when running the installer I get lots of “Illegal instruction” errors until a kernel panic arises.
Does anyone know any non-cmov version of AntiX, or any other Linux distro which may be used in my (really) old computer? Please exclude Damn Small Linux and Tiny Core Linux, as I didn’t find them very situable for desktop PCs.

      Thanks for reading,
      Xavi

unfortunately debian has dropped “586” architecture, when includes the K6-2 processor. You only option is to stick with jessie-based antiX 16.

I have tested AntiX 16 (Md5 sum checked) and does not report any of the “Illegal instruction” errors that I reported a few days ago. Unfortunately, the CD tray opens itself while copying files to the HDD, scrambling up the whole process. Do you know why is it opening by itself?

Also, I have tried fiddling with different boot options with no success so far.

See if dmesg report is given why cd is ejected, when the tray does it’s thing. I have no clue on why your disk is being ejected during the file copy process.
