I am trying to install printer drivers for three different printers.
I have installed said printers with the same set up driver packages (.deb) on Linux Mint, several versions some x86 & some 64bit, Xubuntu, Unbuntu. and usually all that is necessary is to click on the file and package installer pulls up and installs.
Then usually all that is necessary is to install networked printers.
Just wondering why I can get packages installed, I get an extract page that extracts them then won’t let me open the files extracted.

I’ll not attempt to explain “why”, just howto

        sudo apt update
        sudo apt-get install gdebi

then you will be able to
launch spaceFM file manager, browse to Downloads (or whichever directory the .deb files reside in)
and when you right-click a .deb, the “Open” context menu will display a flyout menu. Choose “GDebi Package Manager”

          Like always, even easier way:

          Open Terminal and type:

          sudo apt-get install ~/PATH/TO/YOUR/FILE/to-be-installed.deb

Advantage: If anything is missing or goes wrong, you even get a half of solution.

            I usually invoke dpkg…
(maybe apt-get yeilds more highly detailed messages?)
…but expected a Mint emigrant would be more comfortable using a gui.

            sudo dpkg -i ~/PATH/TO/YOUR/FILE/to-be-installed.deb

Previous antiX Full releases shipped gdebi pre-installed. It got bumped in the course of paring the iso toward hopefully still fitting on a CD?

I’m hoping next release would again pre-install gdebi, along with files in /etc/skel/.config/rox.sourceforge.net to support ROX SendTo // Open With

I’ll do this for full and see if I can squeeze it on base too. I might need reminding though.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Is it time for an Antix 18.0.beta ?

                  You asked for a reminder
