I’m using antiX 32-bit, on an old laptop,
it works quite well,
but it doesn’t shutdown.I’ve tried both the GUI way and the terminal (sudo shutdown -h now),
but the system reboots instead of powering off.

Another one is “sudo halt”. Do either of these work on your system?--

Hi ninos,
Your post caught my eye because I had similar problem a while back on a 32-bit netbook. In my case, it hung as you describe about half the time. I found a solution that works, described here. There were complications because it is a live installation on a flash drive, but you might try sudo halt -dfiph. Edit: try Brian’s suggestions first. I now run antiX-21 on the same machine and still use the same method.

I use ‘sudo halt’, it works like a charm for me on 64-bit. Its manual references/mentions ‘poweroff’ (and ‘reboot’).

I read the post you mentioned , but don’t know what this guy says:

I do not understand it either; fortunately, the three commands ‘sync’, ‘chvt’ and ‘halt’ have manual pages available.
‘persist-config’ is a CLI tool (‘which persist-config’ points to ‘/usr/local/bin/persist-config’) which can be invoked with ‘–help’ switch to print information about its usage.ninos

I have seen similar issues on my 32bit notebook. This issue vanished only after upgrading from original to another antiX kernel version. I believe it was 4.19 series which have worked for me, but this may vary depending on the hardware you use. Meanwhile I’m on 5.x kernel series on this very notebook and haven’t seen this kind of issue anymore.
So I’d suggest: give a kernel update a try (There is a live kernel updater present in antiX control center in case you are running a live system from USB or a frugal installation).
Windows is like a submarine. Open a window and serious problems will start.

Read the thread at https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/poweroff-nuisance/ and see if any of the techniques described there work.
In one case the physical power was not properly turned off, but the system itself was brought to a halt.
If that is the scenario you are experiencing, once the system halts or shuts down, then you can safely power off the system.--

To get rid of the notification “no pinboard……..” you can try
Go to control-centre -> session -> user desktop session
This will open geany. In geany look for the tab desktop-session.conf
Change STARTUP_DELAY=”2″
to STARTUP_DELAY=”5″Robin’s suggestion for a new kernel for a complete shutdown certainly worth a try.
Did you install antiX from a flash drive to HD?

This was for a live system with persistence. “persist-config –shutdown” saves live persistence, then tries to power off via busybox poweroff. If you have installed to HD, this is irrelevant.
Since that failed to turn off my computer, I tried “sync; chvt 1” (so I could see messages) followed by “/sbin/halt -dfiph” which skips the live-persist shutdown steps and powers off. I eventually found a safer way, but the effective command is still “halt -dfiph”ninos
i installed antiX 21 Grup Yorum 32-bit, on an 20-year-old laptop,
using a DVD.It’s the only operating system the computer has,
and its last hope.
antiX works surprisingly well on this antediluvian laptop!ninos
