At present cable internet is unreliable, when it goes down our Antix installations are nearly unusable due to hangs and slow application starts. Base system is from a local remaster.
I am guessing that the system is occupied trying to reconnect, have not found a solution on my own. Any ideas on a fix welcome. Freshly downloaded live stick same problem.

As you say, it is probably wasting valuable processor cycles trying to reconnect your internet.
Why not just disconnect whilst not needing to be online(?).

        Linux (& BSD) since 1999

What do you use for net connection? Can you disable the service?

@fatmac if I disconnect a few minutes later same problem. I need a working solution for all affected users as we are experiencing internet drop several times daily. Getting important now as schools are closed due covid and internet required for continued study.

@fungalnet All are running the connman, as it came with Antix as standard.

In the connman main config I read
If wifi is disconnected, the background scanning will follow a simple
backoff mechanism from 3s up to 5 minutes. Then, it will stay in 5
minutes unless user specifically asks for scanning through a D-Bus
call. If so, the mechanism will start again from 3s.
            and
List of technologies that are marked autoconnectable
by default, separated by commas The default value
for this entry when empty is ethernet, wifi, cellular.

So I think the connman is madly trying to autoconnect the LAN and making the system crawl.
I can block autoconnect in the main config but that would leave me facing furious users.

Reading the manual leaves me feeling that the behaviour is likely compiled in and out of control,
if that proves the case I think a move to ceni may be indicated.

Still looking for ideas as we have a difficult Pandemic situation which will not go away quickly.

Moddit- I never noticed that when using my netbook without internet – maybe using Network Settings and click the “Wired” slider to disconnected could help with the slow down (if using cabled network, adapt accordingly if using wi-fi)?

I’m grasping at straws here, just trying to help…

Off topic- And my country is basically shutting down to, because of the virus… What a way to overreact, in my opinion…

@ppc, wireless can be controlled easily, for some reason not wired. Maybe the developer of connman could not imagine unreliable internet and has same default as wireless compiled in. If no ideas come up I will go to ceni and see if that solves the problem..

I dont suffer on my wifi IBM Tower inside the motorcycle shop when my isp goes down either.

I just have to switch the radio player from streaming stations to saved mp3 folders instead.

The shop computer is currently running AntiX 19 64 bit Full Icewm < no spacefm or rox desktop >
                    I also md5sum before all installs .

Easy enough to check I guess. Just unplug router power cord and have htop open and running and do some dmesg checking.

                    dmesg | grep wlan0 or dmesg | grep eth0

Maybe hardline connections act different than wifi connections. Or my boxes are better boxes than yours. Just kidding. 🙂

Sure is a wonderment? Cuz I have not ran my P3 gear in ages.

Ceni may not be any better, I tried it the other day, (on 19.1), & it was a terrible connection that I got, don’t know why, because I always used ceni before we got connman. Perhaps wicd will work better.
