What it says on the tin: The only tab present is the “popular” tab which doesn’t have most of what I need. I installed the most recent version of AntiX earlier this week so was wondering if there’s something I have to do to enable those other tabs. I’ve attached a screenshot of the issue.

::Like D.O. said – antiX and MX Package installers are similar, but not the same – an user did compile a version of package installer for antiX that had a tab that allowed to install any package from the Repository, but that is not the official version, and it seems it’s no longer available.
To install packages not available in Package Installer, please read the sticky post about it, in this particular case (for using Synaptic, like preciously advised), point 2 of https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/how-to-install-applications-2020-version/#post-32908

…. P.I don’t think it was ever available was it? I have never seen it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Yes, it was made available by Skidoo, long ago- if memory serves me right, it was a link to a compiled .deb in his git… But that file is no longer available (I checked, recently). I should have, at least, a 64bits .deb file on my home desktop, that’s is currently out of service…

::@anticapitalista: Marcelo also downloaded this very same package (I asked him, if he had the .debs, a while ago)- you can see the original links, and some screenshots marcelo took, here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/package-installer-only-in-english/#post-55708

::BTW – flatpaks (on Debian) require libelogind0 as well as all sorts of other useless crap.

::I’m definitely not a fan of flatpaks or any of those bundles. When introduced they sounded promising.
They’ve been one of the biggest packaging disappointments of any software effort in the past decade, at least for me.

::the antiX version does not have the other tabs. just the Popular Apps.
I’m curious — why is this? If anyone happens to know.

::Appimage is generaly fine, just a compressed archive. Like a fresh firefox download from Moz portable.
rename to appimage.zip and open for inspection is in most cases easy.Flatpack and Snap, no space for either. I always think snap is a programmers humor piece.
Take a good packaging system and snap it. i.e. break it. Flatpack seems an attempt to pull users to Buntus
closed application ecosystem. Shuttelworth wants return on investment.April 5, 2023 at 9:56 am #104105MemberPPC
::I downloaded packageinstaller_0.2.7_ski and installed the deb and it only shows one tab.
Yes. Like I said, unfortunately the version that had that feature, I think it was packageinstaller_21.3.03~ski_amd64.deb is no longer available. I took a look at the language files in the git and they still refer to tabs… but I can’t figure out how to compile the source code, to test if it builds a version with tab support…
If not… is there a way to see previous versions of the git’s content, that report back to 2021/03/03, and compile from there?P.
Edit: it’s a bit off topic, but related to “installing” stuff in Linux:
– I love appimages, I use them a lot, specially when I have problems with the installed libreoffice version. They are almost ideal- just one file, that can be uncompressed, and I can manually create a .desktop file to the uncompressed version, eliminating any problem with start up speed, the trade off being a little more disk space being used.
– I love the concept of flatpaks – and they have gatered some momemtum, and have over 2000 apps on their “on-line app store”. That being said: they use rediculous ammount of disk space, carrying over some versions of gnome or kde, for each app I install. And the fact that most apps require, in order to work, to set the correct permitions (not file permitions, but like in android, allowing to connect to the net or using the disk drive) is a big “con” for most users. And in antiX, they have to be installed, ran or uinstalled manually… and like anti said, they carry over some unwanted dependencies…Most users do not care about package formats, they just want to have access to the apps they need, in an easy way…
