updating the Package Installer to include a tab for Debian backports and a console output
      rather than a terminal opening.

Yes, please!!! I’ve been proposing this, since Skidoo made packageinstaller_21.3.03~ski_amd64.deb available- it’s exactly what that package did!- This way, Package Installer is a complete “App Store”, better than most out there – it allows direct access to hundreds of curated apps and also thousands of packages, available in the Repository!
That, plus the current version of antiX Updater, make sure that users can completely manage updating the system, install/uninstall almost any application, in a GUI way, in a far less complex way that Synaptic provides (I love synaptic, but I admit it’s a tad complex, for people used to the currently “dumbed down” mobile app stores).
Edit: deb-installer (now included in antiX 23beta1 an available for antiX 21/22), completes that trio of apps, allowing for a GUI way to install any off-line .deb package!
