Hi,
I want to breathe new life into my old Targa NT9231 (HARDWARE) and wanted to install antiX 22.
This works so far also very well, even a LAN connection I could establish (with UBUNTU this does not work already times).
What I don’t like is that in the default installation (antiX-22-Base 64bit) from USB stick only a maximum resolution of 640×480 is possible.
So it is not possible to work productively.Does anyone have an idea how I can get a higher resolution?
Would a kernel change bring something?
Does an installation with the version “antiX-22-Full 64bit “make sense?
Greetings
PS: With antiX-17.5-Base 64bit I have a choice of several resolutions that fit. However, 17.5 is EOL on the part of Debian.

::At first check what driver is in use.
inxi -GxIf there is sis -driver in use, so then vesa -driver may be a better choise.

::Does an installation with the version “antiX-22-Full 64bit “make sense?
Yes. It will make it easier to perform some changes, like using another kernel…
Would a kernel change bring something?
Possibly – older kernels may work better with very old hardware, but usually the more recent the kernel is, the more hardware compatibility it has.
I have a similar netbook – Atom with 1.6 Ghz, 1 Gig of (shared) RAM (so, no dedicated graphics card, like you have)- sometimes it’s slower than my 32bits laptop, that has antiX 22, 32bits edition.
It makes sense to use a 64bits OS because, although it uses a little bit more RAM, it is much more compatible with current software – you can run just about any app (that your system resources can handle) and also stream DRM on your browser (this means you can use Netflix, HBO, etc, if you want to).If I were you, I would try a side by side installation first, keeping your old antiX OS, not sharing the Home, and see if you can tweak it to handle your screen resolution.
As always, first, always backup essential stuff, then install/reinstall the OS or format partitions…Note: if you can, try antiX 23 beta, and see how it works on your system. Probably in a couple of months, it will be the more recent official antiX version.
Also, please post info on you system, as previously requested
Note: having repeated posts, in different languages can be confusing, you may get tips on one thread and not another. It would be a good policy to choose a language and stick with it, so folks trying to help you out do not have to keep track of 2 different threads!

::You could use Puppy Linux for making better /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. Run Puppy as live and copy Puppy´s xorg.conf to antiX /etc/X11/ .
If it does not work delete file via another console (eg tty2) Ctrl F1 on login screen, login and remove file as root.
I have one good Puppy made xorg.conf as an attachment.

You can continue with your topic in the German language area, because anyone who wants to help you will help you in any language with the help of automatic internet translators. In addition to the advantage that it is easier to find a topic in the German language area than in the English language area. As your native language is German, give preference to translating my original text directly into your language and you will get a much better result.
