      The presence of a stray (unpaired) html markup tag within a posted message, e.g.
      < ul >
      < ol >
      < li >
      can result a web browser failing to render the text.

      A found in the wild (and now fixed) example:

      An unpaired < li > tag caused the entire message body to become “invisible” when viewing the page in firefox.
