      Hello everyone.
I’m an old old factory automation engineer, now retired.
      I live in Italy.
I often tried in the past to switch to Linux (mainly Ubuntu) but with no success. Something always went wrong, mainly the fact that many PLC sw need Windows.
And that printing with linux was always a pain in the ass. The printing driver was always “almost” good, but never perfect.
Now that I’m retired I decided to make another try. My purpose is to revive an old laptop, previously running XP. And AntiX is the first distro that succeed to install and start. Many other light ubuntu basted distros, like Lubuntu, installed but didn’t start properly. AntiX installed and started at soon. Great!
But now starts the difficult game, with other programs installation, Like the italian version of LibreOffice.
I thank you all in advance for the answers that you will give to my (many) questions!
And now it’s time to learn and time to succeed.

libreoffice-help-it is the package that provides Italian Help for LibreOffice, and libreoffice-l10n-it is the localization package for LibreOffice.
If you install both, you will have a localized application and Help, at least to the extent that these packages provide translation.
If they are complete, the entire experience will be in Italian when you login with the Italian locale enabled.
If there is anything inaccurate or missing, perhaps as you learn you can help us improve various translations in Italian.

        Meanwhile, welcome to antiX!

Thank you Brian. I don’t want to flood this “welcome” area with specific questions about installing or similar. I’ll flood the appropriate section after trying to do it by myself reading here and there and anywhere. Thanks again.

Thanks, that’s appreciated. You are off to a good start here, especially with your positive attitude and also the desire to keep the topics appropriate.
You are setting a good example for all of us!

That’s a great way to be “welcome”!

              Hi @Salvuzzo
I’m Italian too, and also a retired (chemical) engineer 🙂

I’m not an expert, like other contributors in this forum, but if you need some help in Italian I’ll be glad to help you.

I’m an antiX aficionado since vers. 17, and a linux user since 2003.

In this forum you’ll find a lot of very gentle people, and also very competent.

              So welcome!

Thanks a lot, Madibi! I’ll make use of your expertise! By now I’m trying to solve my problems by myself, looking for articles and various answers on forums. But I think that I’ll reach soon my limit and I’ll send you a message in a bottle :-D.
I’ll try to keep it in English, so that many other users could find it useful.
Good night from Cassano d’Adda (MI).

                    Hello salvuzzo.

Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.

I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.

Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you to read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
                    How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You will not waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings. I recommend you try desktops that have “zzz” in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these workspaces has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources). zzzFM will be the default file manager on your desktop, it is very similar to other file managers in other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.

Whenever you need to request help or technical support in this forum, explain in detail what is happening, do not mince words, be thorough when writing, inform the characteristics of your computer, such as brand and model. If possible, post the result of the command $ inxi -zv7 from the terminal, copy and paste it here in the message of the topic you are going to create in this forum.

When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option “Notify me of follow-up replies via email”, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
                    How-to install applications – 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

In addition to these topics that I indicated, we have several tutorials in the language areas Italian and Portuguese (in the tutorials, where “pt” or “pt_BR” is written, replace by “it”).

But, let’s not forget Spartak77’s masterpiece “ Guide d’Installazione e configurazione di antiX 21” aggiornata e do “Document with list of links to antiX tutorial guides and discussions“.

Don’t forget to translate my original text in “pt_BR” language directly to “it” so you can get a translation with much more quality and clarity in the information.

                      – – – – –
