Just to avoid confusion, I’ll mention that this is my 2nd thread re. tiny mouse pointers. But, the difference is that the previous thread was focused on the tiny pointer issue in an Antix v21.4 installation on my Dell Precision laptop, whereas this one is about the same issue in an Antix v19.4 installation on my Dell Latitude laptop; i.e., this issue is found on 2 different machines, using 2 different versions of AntiX.

In the other, previous thread, Caprea had suggested downloading a big mouse cursor theme from Gnome-look (Big Mouse Cursor. He told me to download it, extract it, and copy it into /usr/share/icons. I was able to make use of that advice on the v21.4 OS, for a partial fix of this issue. BUT, when I tried to apply this advice a 2nd time in the v19.4 OS, it completely flopped. There was no change of the mouse cursor, and the new theme doesn’t show up in the list of mouse themes.

I’ve tried everything I can think of, including renaming the theme. I even tried doing an “Install” of the theme’s tar via the “Customize look and feel” mouse cursor tab. Now, I have the theme’s name in the list, but no cursors show up in the box to the right – and “remove” doesn’t get rid of that name.

I’ve run out of things to try, and I’m tired of thrashing in the dark, repeatedly rebooting for testing – so, I’m seeking help here.

Where did you get this version? Antix v21.4

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Just a comment – looked at the original thread. The page referenced seemed to provide a lot of good explanations of the complexity of xcursor sizing.

I think you noted that you found it complicated.

One point – if you are having changes in the cursor size when it is over different “things”, it might reflect the existence of two different settings in .x files and in gtk files. If this is the case, you might have to edit both an x/resources file and a gtk config file.

That is described in detail in the shallowsky post that was recommended in your original thread.
