Hi,
this tip should make life easier for most people using antiX/MX with live persistence. I don’t think I’ve seen it elsewhere on the forums.
Maybe you’ve seen dolphin’s video explaining how to create a folder for your personal data that is shared by every OS you run on your PC, and then point to it with symlinks.
I propose you’d do the same, but with links pointing inside your flash drive, in lieu of a HDD. (when you start using expressions derived from french and you’re a native french speaker ^^ )
There’s a folder in /home/demo called Live-usb-storage where you can put all your large files like videos, etc. so that they ain’t included in your persistence file. Well you can use that folder to put any document you have actually and even those folders created by programs inside your /home/demo.
Just follow the same steps as explained by dolphin in his video. Create “mirrors” for any folder you want from your demo folder and then create direct symlinks.
First you must copy these folders to Live-usb-storage, then remove them from /home/demo : that’s easily done from the window manager.
Then you create symlinks that way :$ cd
$ ln -s Live-usb-storage/MyFolder/ MyFolderPretty easy, isn’t it ?
There are 2 benefits in doing so and they’re big :
* you’ll never lose a hard day’s work again when a big system failure occurs and you’re forced to reboot.
* all changes inside these folders are kept outside the persistence file so you will have less remasters to do.
Well I’m not that sure about that one to be honest. And this could depend on your initial persist option too. Dolphin or another dev could tell if it’s real or not.I’ve been using that trick for months and it works perfectly for me.
Thanks for reading 🙂

::Made some testing and I can confirm the second benefit is real.
And then there’s a third one I haven’t seen before :
* you’ll be able to access easily all your documents from another live usb/OS
Just beware that bug if your stick is encrypted and you’re using a non-qwerty keyboard. You’ll have to switch to qwerty before entering password.
