You need policykit-1-gnome for using pkexec. Also in the /.desktop-session startup file the line for pkexec needs to be out commented.antiX21

      ## Use pkexec

If you ever get a chance of free time to kill, void has a package called qsudo which was ported into linux by the trident project (now terminated) from BSDom and appears as a modern alternative to gksu/gksudo, if you can tolerate Qt-crap

Although void dropped ck2 for elogind qsudo is still maintained.

Hi all, have no way to check right now, if ungoogled chromium in the installer is coming from the Debian OBS build repo
If so it will remain hopelessly out of date as the builds are unmaintained from 10.2022. And should be considered insecure.

Presently there are up to date debs available from.

          https://github.com/berkley4/ungoogled-chromium-debian/releases

          Which is forked from ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-debian

          From Debian WIKI: Debian Builds
berkley4 maintains Debian builds of Ungoogled Chromium. Binaries can be downloaded from the ungoogled-chromium-debian ?GitHub project.

Only ungoogled-chromium_*.deb is mandatory. The other debs can optionally be installed if necessary.

To install the package, run: apt install ./ungoogled-chromium_*.deb
          ————————————————————————————-
          From the OBS Repo
As of 2022-07-02 19:19:07, The packages in the OBS repo and the unportable builds
are out of date, have maintenance issues and use an older version of ungoogled-chromium.
Consider using an alternative browser like Firefox, Brave or the flatpak version.

          Nope
Up to date Portable and Appimage versions are available from
          https://ungoogled-software.github.io/ungoogled-chromium-binaries/
They are not official builds, I have found no issues with them over months of usage.

A Fatpack is also available from
          https://flathub.org/apps/details/com.github.Eloston.UngoogledChromium

I intensly dislike fatpack (flatpack)as it is not easy to open for inspection and huge…
The quoted Appimage and Portable builds are both easy to unpack and checked.
Run in the same way as a fresh firefox from Moz, which is also a portable build.

Plenty of further info on install here in the forum.

–antiX updater is still not localized – and that may scare some users, that do not speak english, and will stop using it to update their systems (that may affect many Brazilian users, I think)

You’re absolutely right PPC, until the translations get into the “antix-updater” package I’ll have to keep repeating for people to click the “Automatic Update” button almost every day.

I don’t understand this procedure, why make a package available in the updates without first harvesting the translations? The new package should contain the translations and then be sent for updates. Should this be the correct procedure?

Mx’s deb-installer got automatically installed – it does not work.

As for the use of the MX Linux deb-installer to the detriment of the deb-installer made by the PPC that BobC reworked with regard to the functioning of the translations in this program. I don’t need to comment any more, because the result is already there.

deb-installer works just fine on antiX-23.

@PPC, other readers, Sorry, went too fast in previous post. now more detail.

The UngoogledChromium deb is there, updated two weeks ago.

To see the full list click on the entry Stable 110.0.5481.177-1 Latest at top of page.
                    Which brings us to

                    https://github.com/berkley4/ungoogled-chromium-debian/releases/tag/110.0.5481.177-1

At bottom of assets list is. ungoogled-chromium_110.0.5481.177_amd64.deb

Installer script and auto updating would be nice, UngoogledChromium is an excellent highly
configurable browser I do not want to miss or see witheld from users.

Configurable: chrome://flags/ which is roughly equivalent to Moz about:config but more limited.

I do have the sandbox and driver packages installed, driver at least does seem to make a difference,
no idea how to check sandboxing.

deb-installer works on antiX22/21 here, too. As long as you have not pkexec installed. If pkexec is installed for using it the changes I wrote above are needed. Not the fault of deb-installer but quite normal behavior imo.

I’ve been using the 110.0.5481.177 image on and off for the past couple of weeks, and an earlier version just prior to the 177 update.
Both have been solid and quite usable for general purposes.

One thing I didn’t fully acknowledge earlier is the presence of the deb package in this particular packaging of Ungoogled Chromium.

Hopefully this source will continue to create convenient .deb packages each time and update becomes available.
