Today’s update of antiX 21 includes upgrade of gir1.2-webkit2-4.0, which entails installation of libelogind0 and libmanette-0.2-0, in addition to upgrade of related libs.
It looks like it becomes harder for elogind/libelogind0 free antiX…
Current composition of antiX 21 Runit, elogind/libelogind0 – free is golden. Simplicity and rock solid reliability. I hate to bring back libelogind0 and other systemd-like stuff, so looking up to anticapitalista if antiX can continue this way…

I’ll repackage libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37, but it will take a while.

What else gets removed if you sudo apt purge libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37

        Can you live without them?

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Purging the libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37 results in removal of the following 3: gir1.2-webkit2-4.0* gnome-maps* libwebkit2gtk-4.0-37*
So it appears I would lose gnome-maps. Although it is a useful app, I could live without it.
My main concern is libelogind0, so if gnome-maps is the only app that requires webkit then I would rather sacrifice gnome-maps than polute antiX system with *elogind* stuff.

I do not expect you would spend time and effort to repackage libwebkitgtk-4.0-37 just for gnome-maps as long as other apps people are using are not impacted and libelogind0 is not installed in result of this webkit upgrade. I see this as more important objective to continue your strategy of *elogind* free antiX, if it is still in plans…
On my end I will adapt my system for the sake of greater good.
Thanks very much and best regards.

            Update:
To follow up, I have purged the entire webkit kaboodle from antiX. Following purge of those three I autoremoved tons of webkit related files as well. Lost gnome-maps but antiX is still libelogind0 – free. Clean.
I am testing the resulting antiX. Hopefully no issues will surface in result of this purge and the new system will become new baseline.
            Thanks again…

@anticapitalista, may I politely request that changes of the present nature are done in a more controlled manner and
feedback from those users requested who have packages such as VLC Gimp and Palemoon installed, need and use them in
many cases daily. user olsztyn has already indicated he does not have VLC installed, does not use it and is pushing
an agenda which is damaging user experience and confidence in antiX.

Broken updates are hell for largely inexperienced users, something up to now pretty much unknown with antiX and which
has helped to build a growing userbase.

              This mornings update brought:

              The following packets have issues.
              libavcodec-extra58 : depends on: libavutil56 (= 7:4.3.3-0+deb11u1) but 10:4.4-dmo4+deb11u3 is selected for installation
depends on: libswresample3 (= 7:4.3.3-0+deb11u1) aber 10:4.4-dmo4+deb11u3 is selected for installation
              collides with: libavcodec58
E: Problems could not be corrected you have held back defective packets.

Taking a look at what would happen if I remove libavcodec58 gave a long list
              celluloid, ffmpeg, gimp, gstreamer1.0-libav, guvcview, libavdevice58 libavfilter7
              libavformat58, libchromaprint1 libffms2-4 libgimp libguvcview libmpv1
and more including palemoon and xsane .

@ModdIt As I said in another post, 0:4.4-dmo4+deb11u3 shows you have Debian multimedia repo enabled. (It is disabled by default).
User should NOT install anything from there except the dvd libs needed for playing dvds (via package installer).
So remove everything that has come from that repo (the .dmo suffix shows it is debian multimedia) and install the apps you need from the default repos.

Hi anticapitalista, sorry, not a good start to the day.
situation is bothersome, just checked again, deb multimedia is not enabled on default or backup.
looks like an introduction or package install from the past causing unexpexted trouble.

Seems I have some, lots of extra work to do, maybe ending up with a lot of reinstalls from a fresh system
which may prove to be the sanest way to go.
Will see if I can find a way to list all packages with the dmo in packagename for removal.

I will now add a warning in the apt sources d folder.
#DO NOT install anything from Debian Multimedia. Risk of system breakage.
                  #Install codecs with package installer.

                  My sources list excerpt:
                  # Multimedia Stable and Testing
                  # Use to install libdvdcss2 and codecs.
                  #deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org testing main non-free

Even more deadly on antiX stable is installing from testing repo.

                        Thanks anticapitalista,
You are absolutely right, will be doing a new installation shortly.
On my latest backup from a couple of days ago I have the VLC issue.
On my my master live stick which I am using now updates installed OK.

But sources also has the same commented out line.

Could be much worse, I keep multiple backups :-).

Hope you can accept my apology, had burning ears this morning.
Think old age and covid killing my last few brain cells too.

Not searching anymore for how multimedia packets causing a problem came in.
                          Log is too long.

The multimedia repo was as far as I can tell never directly activated in apt
sources and is unchanged compared to a fresh download from this morning.

This box gets a new cpu fan and better case cooling soon, reinstall will wait.

                            Moddit, for completeness
on a fresh download, AFAIK, there should be by default three outcommented lines for the deb.multimedia.repos
in the /etc/apt/sources.list.d/debian.list on antiX21 “Grup Yorum”

one for stable one for testing and one for sid.
                            #deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org bullseye main non-free
                            #deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org testing main non-free
                            #deb http://www.deb-multimedia.org sid main non-free

all are commented out and therefore not active.
(You always refer here only to the line of testing, what about the others on your sytem ?)

If there is on a system a package with the dmo suffix , like 10:4.4-dmo4+deb11u3, then it was without doubt installed from deb-multimedia.org (dmo)
Either by activating the sources or by downloading it directly from deb.multimedia side.

                              Hi caprea, thanks,
jarred covid foggy and fishing for ideas. Checked again.

all multimedia in sources were/are commented out. Including in my main backup
ISO and live install stick. The live updated ok and is fairly recent so
not a lot happened since then. I have preserved logs so maybe can find some
                              enlightenment.
libdvdcss2 and codecs do come from multimedia repo via package installer.

Anyway, Better I take a break.

Yes, that’s another good reason for using the package installer. If it installs from other repos it will activate and deactivate the sources automatically.Like anticapitalista wrote it’s better not to install anything else from deb.mulimedia, except the dvd libs needed for playing dvds (via package installer).
