::I just tested. In antiX 19, 64bits, I’m getting something strange:
Many .desktop files come up reapeated, listed in /usr/share/applications (and it’s /antix Subfolder) and also ~/.local/share/applications…
Did something change recently in the way antiX manages it’s .desktop files?Edit: the same (or very similar) thing happens in app-select

NOTE: this system is too new to run any of the standard antiX kernels so I’ve been updating using Liquorix and xanmod Version 6.* kernels and they are working fine.

Anyone else seeing this?On my fully updated antiX 21 Runit elogind-free (should be equivalent of antiX 22)- no such duplication on IceWM.
On my antiX 22 SID, elogind-free Runit – no such duplication IceWM.
In the past I have seen such cases on IceWM though.- This reply was modified 4 months, 1 week ago by olsztyn.

::We did have the problem in the past and the “fix” was fairly simple, though I can’t recall the exact steps; we should have a discussion about it in the forum.
Maybe a good search will be able to locate it.--

Indeed. It was coming and going as I recall. I did not mind this as the impact was immaterial. I thought it was just another manifestation of IceWM current mood…
Joke aside, I recall such duplication happening randomly in several places. One place was when adding an app to ‘Personal’. The app list had duplicates, so which one to pick uncertainty…- This reply was modified 4 months, 1 week ago by olsztyn.

Fix was simple, assuming it still applies:

I did not know this fixes also app duplicates…You may be right, but I suggest that it is worth trying; running the command will not hurt the system, and if the menu and app entries are generated from the same source – which is possible, perhaps this will work. This kind of experimentation is worth it; at the very least it checks off an item in a “process of elimination”.

P.
If someone creates a .desktop entry, that is where they should put it if they want it to appear on menu’s etc. That way its stored separately from the original entry, and under /home so it gets saved along with other /home data.
If the duplicate entries are found there, and were not put there intentionally by the user, that would be a problem.

::@PPC – the ‘problem’ is that there is no ~/.local/share/applications folder on default antiX-full, but there is for base.
If one exists (even if empty) then all is ok.
So IceWM TIM should detect whether that folder exists and if it does do the ~/.local/share/applications find part of the script.
If it doesn’t then either create ~/.local/share/applications or don’t do the ~/.local/share/applications find part of the scriptcd /usr/share/applications/ find ~+ -type f -name "*.desktop" > ~/.apps-antix-0.txt cd ~/.local/share/applications/ find ~+ -type f -name "*.desktop" >> ~/.apps-antix-0.txt ###NOTE: repeat the last 2 lines, changing the first, the "cd" one, to change to the folder where your .desktop files are sort ~/.apps-antix-0.txt > ~/.apps-antix.txt cd ~Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

Anyone else seeing this?In antiX 22 full 64-bit SyVint updated today (12/31/2022) the entries to add the icon to the bar are translated (for .desktop files that have the Name[pt_BR] entry) and duplicated in IceWM Toolbar Icon Manager.
In antiX 21 full 64-bit SyVint updated today (12/31/2022) the entries to add the icon to the toolbar are translated (for .desktop files that have the entry Name[pt_BR]) and are not duplicated in IceWM Toolbar Icon Manager.Edit: the same (or very similar) thing happens in app-select
This problem in App Select does not happen in antiX 21 and 22 that I detailed above updated today (12/31/2022).
Have a happy new year.

::Nice fixes – AND explanation for the instances where entries are duplicated. Thanks!
By the way, I have not seen duplicates and I’ve previously changed a few things that presented issues some time around the previous release; I’ve not seen any issues resurface.
