Hi, I am quite new to AntiX and also WM iceWM is new to me, which makes it quite difficult for me to find my way around. Nevertheless, I like it and want to learn. I have a problem with the file manager. I completely don’t know how to copy files, or how to view connected devices. This caused me to try installing minimal XFCE, but I don’t think this is the solution. Is anyone able to help me with this window manager?
Okay, I’m a noob. Dragging works. A lot of learning ahead of me đ

::Doing plenty of reading, then trying out what you have read is a good way to learn.
When you make mistakes, note them, go back to the reading and try to determine the mistakes and the correct way.
I’ve been doing that for a lifetime and many things are familiar and sometimes I can figure out a problem based on what I have already experienced. If you are new to all of this you have to start somewhere.
PPC has written a number of guides, suggestions and tools.
Marcelocripe writes and cites these tools several times almost every week so I recommend you go through our forum, find those posts and links; read them. Experiment with them. Make mistakes and learn from them. You’ll feel a great sense of accomplishment when you begin to understand how to use the software and then you will enjoy it!

::Brian & caprea gave the best advice. I’ll just add that (to me) rox-filer works nicely when you have 2 windows open, and drag & drop to copy/move/create a link.
Your mounted volumes (usb sticks or others) get mounted under /media. Just click there, then on your username folder under that, to access them.
Open zzzfm from the main menu, if you want to use the other file manager sometimes. Both are available, regardless of the one that is the default.

::Hi, let me suggest an alternative file manager that applies once the media/shares are mounted.
Perhaps, it could be something you find a bit easier.
If yes, then you could (occasionally) use it when you need to get things done before learning the file manager discussed.I believe that antiX comes with ‘mc’ = Midnight Commander installed (if not, you can install it using ‘sudo apt install mc’ in the terminal/console).
This is a 2-panel terminal-based utility akin Total Commander, no dragging this time; you mark your file(s) and perform desired operation using keyboard shortcut.
1) Open terminal/console.
2) Type ‘mc’ and hit enter.
More info available e.g. at https://www.linode.com/docs/guides/how-to-install-midnight-commander/ .June 21, 2022 at 4:43 pm #84950Member

::Hello marek.
Welcome to antiX Linux and the forum.
I don’t know how to write in English and I send my texts translated by the internet translator. I hope you can understand everything, if your native language is not English, please translate my original Brazilian Portuguese text directly into your language with the help of internet translators.
Regardless of your level of knowledge about GNU/Linux, I recommend you read these excellent tutorials created by @PPC:
What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications â 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum. When I first started using antiX, I read the tutorials that PPC created, these readings saved me a lot of time and I think it saves time for any new antiX user. Your time will not be wasted with these readings, everything will seem to be much easier than you could imagine. You won’t waste your time searching the internet or even creating new topics, on the contrary, you will gain a lot of time with these readings.
I recommend you try out desktops that have âzzzâ in their name. I usually use zzz-IceWM or zzz-JWM or zzz-Fluxbox (each of these desktops has its own characteristics and consumes more or less resources), zzzFM will be the default file manager for your desktop, it it is very similar to the other file managers of other GNU/Linux distributions and Windows XP. To access other antiX workspaces, click on Menu, Desktop, Other Desktops and click on the workspace name, instantly the workspace will be loaded.
To display the devices connected to your computer in the zzzFM file manager, click once on the icon that has the appearance of a hard disk, this menu is on the left side of the curved arrow to the right. Then click on the blue colored folder icon that is on the right side of the right curved arrow. Then click on the “Devices” menu, move the cursor to the last option (I don’t remember the text of this menu), click on the “Display Internal Units” checkbox. Now the zzzFM file manager will look similar to “File Manager Settings zzzFM with Recycle Bin for antiX 21 in pt-BR language”. The other option is to download the compressed file “.zip” from the Internet Archive, use the internet translator to translate the text file “Configuracoes do zzzFM com a Lxeira pt-BR 04-11-2021.txt” to your language, this file contains the tutorial on how to use the zzzFM configuration file that is in the “.zip” compressed file. If you want, you can also help me to make the text file of the tutorial available in your language and so more people will benefit from this volunteer work.
Whenever you need to ask for help or technical support, post the output of the terminal command $ inxi -Fxz, copy and paste it in the message of the topic you are going to create in this forum.
When you start a topic or participate with a post, remember to check the option âNotify me of follow-up replies via emailâ, by checking this option, you will receive a message in your email box whenever there are replies from topic in question.

What is antiX and how to try it out or install it.
Short essential how-to list for the complete Linux newbie.
How-to install applications â 2020 version.
How to: correctly use antiX forum.

::Try: Menu-Desktop-Other Desktops, then ZzzFM-Ice. This changes the default file manager to Zzz, and it’s the easiest way to do it. ZZZ is the closest to Windows of the available options. Do try the other combinations if you please. Xfce is nice, but the already available options are all lightweight and fit the purpose of antiX being “lean”.

::Thank you so much for such comprehensive answers and links to readings. I will definitely be studying. I’m not so fresh in linux, but still many things I don’t know. So far I was using Mx Linux, but I decided to definitely end up using systemd. I’m just exploring the whole background of these arguments and slowly a clear picture is starting to emerge. My language is Polish and I often use a translator unfortunately. Your responses are very valuable, for which I thank you very much.

Yup, ANOTHER very good alternative; though we’re “lean and mean”, we’re not lacking at all in great tools, we just provide the lesser known, but more lean and efficient tools.

::Hi Marek,
What file manager on any Linux, DOS or Windows system did you like best?
antiX is very flexible
I noticed in the tag you put MC.
Did you know that in antiX you can set Midnight Commander to be your default file manager? That is set in Preferred Applications. Its on the Desktop tab of Control Centre. See pic.
Another option would be to add it to your toolbar with IceWM Toolbar Icon Manager so it only takes 1 click to run it. See pic.

::I use Midnight Commander as the default file manager on my 1997 Pentium II 300. Its super light and quick. You can always add zzzfm to the toolbar so its easy to use when you need more features.
The annotations are courtesy of MTPaint with the enhanced screenshot utility. Its a great setup for annotation.
