And I figured out a way to make users more aware of the different section’s titles, now that they are centered like the button’s contents: use a different color for them.
the variable on line 591 allows the user to select the best color. I tried a few and settled for “green”- it stands out on both dark and white backgrounds…

I attach just the main script, and not the workspace-manager and icewm-remember ones, so you can just test this change.

Anyone interested, pitch in with your ideas, or be silent for ever 🙂

It’s always nice, after spending a lot of time and effort, creating something, to be in that place where you worry about such trivial stuff like a text’s color… I do hope no bug or problem pops up!

        @anticapitalista, and all:
Another try for a “better looking” main window- now buttons have their limits always visible, making it easier to distinguish buttons and section titles (we can still change the section title’s color, I just set it to white, on the variable).

-Like in the last version of the script, the only change is in the main window’s visuals, nothing else was touched.

@PPC: Both of the new scripts appear to work well; I did not click every single option this time, though I checked a few.
As far as the difference between the two of them, though 53 looks and runs well, and shows the category names, I really like the simple, clean appearance of the 53-f version.

If you need anything particular checked out in these, I can try it, but as I said, unless you changed much code, I’ve already given several of the recent scripts a pretty good exercise. Whichever one is used, I think it’s a helpful, useful tool and I thank you for all of your efforts!

@Brian Masinick – many thanks for offering to test changes, but, in the last 3 versions, the only change not related to the looks of the main window was the addition of the button to restore the clock back to it’s default setting (deleting that variable’s line from the prefoverride file).
If you can, please test if it works perfectly: use the script to change the clock, then click the button to set back to the default setting. The default clock configuration should be restored, unless, of course, if you set *your* default configuration on the prefoverride file. In this case, you get the clock as it is pre-configured by antiX or the Theme. It’s not the ideal solution, but my reasoning was this: users that edit the prefoverride file manually do know what they are doing, so, if they lose their changes, they just edit them back… Regular users that have no idea what the prefoverride file is, can play around with the clock settings and, if they just want the default (ex: the day of month, etc) setting back, they just have to click the new button.

I’d be happy to experiment with the clock and the prefoveride.

I can even save or rename it and do several experiments and I can copy and/or remove my previous clock settings because I definitely know how to change them.

A year or so ago I wrote several external clock apps just like to practice stale coding skills and it was fun.

Happy to test that for you and I will let you know the results.

                Hi @PPC,
I tried the v5.3. The reset button works for me.

But I wanted to point out that the Titles don’t show up very well. I can barely see them. They are faint white. Please see picture.

Crap, sorry about that. I see them fine because my windows configuration is a dark one… So I changed again the titles to green (it’s simple, I just have to change a variable’s value)

@anticapitalista – we can keep this version as the “definitive one” or, if you think it’s better, I can simply remove the color from the Titles of the sections… (it’s an easy edit)

Regarding the clock settings, I removed my prefoveride file setting and tried several various things, turning on and off the clock in the toolbar, turning 12 hour and 24 hour mode, setting the LED clock, then returning to my preferred settings and they all worked.

I also did some checking of the themes, something I may have missed in earlier testing. I verified that the available themes can be selected and a tried a few of them, even choosing one much larger size than I’d previously used. That one big theme put the AM/PM indicator out of view on my toolbar, but when I chose a theme more in fitting with the size and preferences I use, the feature was still there, so that’s simply a function of the current resolution and setup I have, NOT a deficiency in the tool that I can detect, particularly since as soon as I changed the size of the theme everything was just right.

Regarding the tile contrast that calciumsodium reports, I looked at his pictures and on my system they look fine, so that may simply be a coloring feature that individuals may want to tailor to suit them; maybe that’s something that can also be adjusted in the display; if not, maybe that’s one more tiny tweak, but not anything mandatory. I went through several things again and again and I stick with my previous statements that everything looks good. Only preferred colors and sizes are things that some people may want to adjust; otherwise this thing is pretty close to perfect!

I went BACK to those themes and selected a few different HUGE themes; this time even the clock on the toolbar adjusted and displayed properly, so I was right; that one time I changed something was NOT a defect; it was an artifact of whatever else I had been doing; alternating between small, medium, large, and huge themes actually adjusts the toolbar very well and everything displays clearly. WELL DONE throughout!

Since no admin replied in the other thread “New features present in Transifex: antiX-workspace-manager, antix_firewall_toggl“.

                        So I’ll ask here:

Will the entry “Manage quick launch Toolbar icons” be used in a button?

If the answer is “yes”, which program will be opened when this button is clicked?

Does the “(Robin’s) Workspace Manager” entry need to have the name of the creator of the program? In my opinion, the name of the program should be used.

                        – – – – –

Já que nenhum administrador respondeu no outro tĂłpico “New features present in Transifex: antiX-workspace-manager, antix_firewall_toggl“.

I’m with you on this. I think it best just to call it Workspace Manager.

@PPC – green is good for me, but I’m not sure how it looks when other themes are chosen and for people who suffer from colour vision deficiency.

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

As I don’t know how to help with the programming codes, I can only help by looking at the details.

I suggest centering the text below in the window:

\n Select what you want to change from the options below \n
(if an option fails to work, please try clicking it again)\n

In the “icewm-manager-gui-v53colors-f-green.zip”, “TEXTDOMAIN=icewm_manager_gui” calls “icewm_manager_gui.mo”, so the “for_use_antix-development_icewm-manager-gui.po” will need to be fixed for translations work.

                            Obrigado!

Como eu não sei ajudar com os códigos de programação, eu só consigo ajudar olhando para os detalhes.

Eu sugiro centralizar o texto abaixo na janela:

\n Select what you want to change from the options below \n
(if an option fails to work, please try clicking it again)\n

No “icewm-manager-gui-v53colors-f-green.zip”, “TEXTDOMAIN=icewm_manager_gui” chama “icewm_manager_gui.mo”, por tanto, o “for_use_antix-development_icewm-manager-gui.po” precisará ser corrigido para as traduções funcionarem.

                              @anticapitalista:
I’m attaching a slightly tweaked script, that does not change the colors of section’s titles. Please choose the one you like best. I’m prone to like this latest version, without any added colors (I added that feature just to users would see what was a title of a section and what was a clickable option- since now the clickable options are always visible buttons, that is no longer needed).

I suggest centering the text below in the window

I can’t. The text is also displayed in a column. the limit of that line of text is the end of the buttons on the columns on the left side of the window. There are ways around that, but it’s a complex process to implement, for such tiny change…

Looks good with the bold topic headings; functionality is otherwise the same. Personally I don’t care one way or the other about colors, but I can experiment later if you need the testing exposure. I did randomly check several previously tested features and the behavior is identical.

@PPC – latest app-select changes made by dave (not yet in repos) have resulted in the add_to_desktop part of icewm-manager-gui no longer working.
Everything else (with very minor language edits by me) seems to work very well.
