      Hi there!

I wanted to try and prolong the life of a Samsung N150 netbook (what can I say, it was a freebie and I’m a sucker for freebies)…

But anyway, I had two little problems trying to get it working.

First, when I try booting it from the default install, the mouse/keypad cursor disappears a second or two after everything seems up and running. However, I found that if I booted up in fail-safe mode, I didn’t have that problem.

Does this mean there is anything special I need to do should I install antiX 19 as the OS on this little machine?

Second, I just did not seem to have any luck trying to get Connman to connect me via WiFi. I couldn’t even seem to get it to show available WiFi networks, even though there’s lots of them where I live, including my own network. Is there some sort of (obvious?) way to make it work?

      Thanks in advance!

PS: apart from those wee stumbling blocks, antiX 19 looks some nice…

I have searched through the forum posts and wasn’t able to find a similar case with a solution. The only one I found that reported something similar was Richard. Try right-clicking on the desktop and restarting session when not booting in failsafe (even if you can’t see the cursor, it should still be working). Hopefully the cursor comes back so you can test stuff in normal antiX session.
Can someone guess what the reason may be?

This may be many things. Try to boot normally and, in a terminal, execute:
        ifconfig
You should be able to see a “WLANX” option and status.

        A. If you can’t, then it may be that antiX is missing the driver or firmware. Try:
        sudo dmesg | grep "wlan"
to see what driver is trying to be loaded and if it is able to load the corresponding firmware.

        B. If you DO see a “WLANX” interface after executing ifconfig, then you can try scanning to see if any network is detected using connman:
        connmanctl scan wifi
Wait for a bit until it completes this
        connmanctl services
        should display all available networks.
If this works, then you don’t have any networks problem. If no networks are displayed, then there is a problem with your networks interface.

Follow the steps above in a logical way and you will get more info on your problem. Give us more details so we can help you.

Murphy’s Law raised its ugly head between my post and Xecure’s post!

First of all, thanks for taking the time to respond, Xecure. I’ll make note of your recommendations, just in case this happens again.

          But anyway…
I went ahead and installed antiX 19 on the Samsung N150 netbook anyway.
No more mouse issues since then; so hopefully that was just a one off.

The other thing I noticed that Connman does not work only the first time I ran antiX 19.
When leave antiX 19, and start it up again, Connman works just.

I’m not sure if it’s a twinge of odd behaviour for an older netbook I got as a freebie
or else I did something wrong and couldn’t see it the first time.

Bottom line is, that it seems to be working just fine now…

          Thanks again for responding, Xecure…

As complicated as old gear goes with metal fatigue and what ever.

Don’t be surprised at one off glitches. I see it all the time on antique gear. So I don’t expect perfection like on my newer gear.

              Thanks, rokytnji.

              At least I know it’s not something I’m doing wrong (I hope!)…

The important thing is that antiX 19 is working on that little
antiquated netbook. So I’ll be able to get more mileage out of it!

              Thanks again!
