      Good Morning,

I have two requests for next release:

      1. Connectshares in CC:
Under Shares there is a button for
      Connectshares settings and
      Disconnectshares
      (and one for Droopy)
      But none for Connectshares.
      Can you pls. add it.

      2. Update and Upgrade Button
Can you add a button for update and (dist-)upgrade the system.
Either in the CC or next to the “unplug removeable device” button.
      Just like in Sparkylinux.
This would also solve the constant trouble with testing users, that don’t use dist-upgrade.

      Thank you and best regards

Maybe also add CDE in AntiX repos, Sparky has a .deb in it’s repositories.

          What is CDE?

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.

antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

Its an old Unix workstation desktop, but looks like its being kept up, and on Sparkylinux and Trisequel, as well as BSD from the looks of it. There is a pretty detailed wiki there on Sourceforge that should tell you if it would be reasonable to add.

I haven’t tried it. Too much work, too little time lately…

CDE is what XFCE was based on, it’s from the period of FVWM, (roughly speaking), & was the first attempt to unify the unix desktop GUI, a bit spartan by todays standards, but should be light enough, resources wise, but it may use an old toolkit, (motif).

                It’s not worth — it’s interesting and it’s antique. 😉

                CDE Desktop Screenshots …

Adding “Only Office” might be “worth” adding it — Sparky has it too.

                    CDE and OnlyOffice
Is the suggestion to preinstall these? If preinstalled, people will expect antiX to provide support for these, but currently no one here is using these. That does not suggest a happy outcome. If just packaging it and posting in forum about its availability, I think hold horses until someone proficient at using it (CDE, or OnlyOffice) agrees to court help requests.

Nope — just include in Antix Repos so one doesn’t have to temp allow the Sparky, get those two and then disable again. 😉

In the mid to late 1990s I was an UNIX engineer working on localization (language support) in Digital UNIX for our desktop, which moved from an X11 Motif style to CDE, which looked similar to the Motif of the 90s.

I think I tried a CDE implementation on a Linux desktop once. It was surprisingly nimble, but otherwise unimpressive, other than the nostalgia factor of using something from 20 years ago. I prefer today’s Xfce to any implementation of CDE personally.

As far as other things, I am very happy with the choices we already have. Some minor cleanup and consistency improvements are more likely to please the widest audiences overall. Nothing major is needed unless we branch out into other venues, and that may be out of the question with the available resources in place.
