I upgraded GIMP from v2.8 to v2.10 and now the icons are really ugly. I’ve been seeing this as apps such as this convert from GTK-2 to GTK-3, so it’s “theme-related” (SEE attached images for the DIFFERENCE). Here’s my GTK-3 config (~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini:

      [Settings]
      gtk-button-images=1
      gtk-menu-images=1
      gtk-enable-event-sounds=1
      gtk-enable-input-feedback-sounds=1
      gtk-xft-antialias=1
      gtk-xft-hinting=1
      gtk-xft-hintstyle=hintfull
      gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme=true
gtk-fallback-icon-theme=gnome <====== I suspect this is the ugly icon theme, since I doubt "hicolor" has all the icons needed for GIMP, etc.??
gtk-icon-theme-name=hicolor <====== Changing this does not affect GIMP, et. al. (see comment above)
      gtk-font-name=Sans 8

      1) Can anyone tell me how to select and use a better “default” icon-set for GTK-3 apps?!

      2) The settings.ini file contains no theme name, just “gtk-application-prefer-dark-theme=true” What is the “default” theme used and where is this set/configured?

      3) In a related matter, anyone know how to pick colors, particularly BACKGROUND? Pretty much all GTK-3 themes have either light or dark grey for background. 🙁

      Thanks,

      Jim

Yep, I’ve also noticed the “ugly” icon theme in gimp after the upgrade, but I think this is not in any way related to the ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
The developers of gimp changed the default icon style
        https://gui.gimp.org/index.php/Icon_themes_workgroup#Preferred_style
I just changed it in gimp under edit-Preferences-Interface-IconTheme to the Legacy , it’s also possible to change the theme to System.

(By the way, did anyone with testing-repos manage to have gimp and mypaint together installed ?)

FIXED! THAT was the hint I needed, so I fixed it in GIMP!

          Thanks, Caprea!
