Thank you for your efforts! I am a Debian non-expert user, and I have been trying to get a live AntiX able to input fcitx-mozc (for Japanese language input). I succeeded once to launch it on a the previous edition (21) after installing it on a laptop computer, using the procedure described here https://pc-freedom.net/basic/antix-19-japanese.
I have tried for several times the same installing procedure in edition 22, but it does not work. It seems that there are some Debian packages (libraries?) that are necessary, but nosystemd packages are preferred to them.
I am far from an expert — actually a linguist — but I would really appreciate any way to install a working Japanese input software. Thank you in advance!- This topic was modified 5 months, 3 weeks ago by xanthian.

::I have tried for several the same installing procedure in edition 22, but it does not work.
Could you please explain in more detail how which problem appears?
I followed the tutorial from your mentioned webside and fcitx-mozc autostarts and another language is selectable on antiX22.November 8, 2022 at 7:01 am #92655Memberxanthian
::Thank you for your prompt response!
I am sorry for bothering you. As a conclusion, it’s good to hear that the tutorial worked on your system. That means that perhaps I did something wrong while tweaking and tinkering and remastering the live version. I will try again later with a freshly made live usb, when I get some free time.
That being said, I will try to detail. I am using the “modern kernel” (5.10).
The commandsudo apt install –install-recommends fcitx fcitx-mozc
returns that everything is in latest version (so that it installs no package). Actually no recommends are installed (no zenity, no task-japanese, no zinnia-tegaki etc).
After rebooting nothing happens. “fcitx” menu icon does nothing. Usually a “mozc” icon appears in Debian, but not here. I tried to install each of them individually, but it still doesn’t work. Yesterday night I tried to upgrade to “testing”, but the problem remains the same.
I tried then to uninstall them all, but the command “sudo apt remove fcitx fcitx-mozc” returns “couldn’t locate package fcitx couldn’t locate package fcitx-mozc”.
Something might be weird with my apt settings, because I can find the packages in “Control Center > Package Manager” (Synaptic).- This reply was modified 5 months, 3 weeks ago by xanthian.

::Did you update the live system before the above command ?
sudo apt update
sudo apt install --install-recommends fcitx fcitx-mozc
Here it installed a lot of packages with the command like zenity etc.November 8, 2022 at 11:08 am #92667Memberxanthian
::(Later edit) Thank you!
It was good to know that it worked for you!
I tried to do the procedure again with a freshly made USB stick, at the very first step after booting using “persist root” option. It worked!
I don’t know why I failed in my previous attempts, but now I think that I definitely messed up some settings.
Problem solved. Thank you very much!- This reply was modified 5 months, 3 weeks ago by xanthian.
