UngoogledChromium latest update now available

Depending on user installation UngoogledChromium Version 105.0.5195.127
is available.

I use the portable version, updating just involves checking if the build
of chrome-sandbox is unchanged, if yes I just copy in the unpacked application
keeping sandbox as is. If sandbox changes follow readme in the package to setup
correctly.

Well worth taking a look through chrome://flags/
For those unfamiliar that is the equivalent of about:config from FFox.

Get latest uBlock from https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases

You download the zip fie, unpack it.
In UngoogledChromium open settings, Extensions, turn on developer mode, switch is
top right, drag and drop the unpacked extension in to the UngoogledChromium
window, the extension will add. Turn off developer mode and restart the browser.

Enjoy the speed and compatibility of Chromium based browsing without the privacy
implications of google.

For those in Europe it is well worth using MetaGer as main search engine. Results
are pretty good and it is based within EU, Germany. It is a meta engine so combines
results from several other search machines.

Hi, I use antiX testing and I still have some old version available.
May be, it needs time to propagate to the antiX repository currently set, see below.

Hi sybok,
I started to use the portable version of UngoogledChromium due to sometimes slow
updating of repo versions. Most updates bring bugfixes and some close security holes,
on occasion introduce new buggy behaviour or are compiled against a very recent GLIBC
version only available on Testing or sid.

OT: as testing does not get security updates in a timely manner I moved to sid. Running
with 5.18.04 kernel and NVidia Vulcan 470 driver.

Setup is more stable than some major distros I used in the past. And still distinctly
keeps antiX virtues as far as possible.

Hi, I am aware of security lag in testing, still it is a shared computer and I believe testing provides less breaks.
And I do not want to test the patience of the other user by breaks (that are said to occur in the inSIDious? ‘sid’ more often than in stable) since she already complaints about Linux being more difficult than Win 10.

It seems that portable can be shared across users (at least firefox), simply creating a new profile for each user in the corresponding directory.
I may give it a try.

I just started the unpacked binary using full-path to it ‘/home/<username>/Downloads/<folder>/chromium &’ from the other account and it automatically loads corresponding existing chromium profile (of that other account).
I do not care about the two browsers sharing the profiles, it is convenient for easy transition from one to the other.

There’s one thing I am not sure about – the README file contains comment about SANDBOXING and I decided to use the other option – SUID sandbox, just for sure.
When I start the browser via wrapper (it loads the chromium profiles again), the browser loads and the CLI informs me about two errors:
1) https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium-archlinux/issues/197
2) ERROR:ev_root_ca_metadata.cc(290)] Failed to register OID: 0
and from the other account:
3) ‘libva error: vaGetDriverNameByIndex() failed with unknown libva error, driver_name = (null)’
Perhaps, my setting of the SUID did not work?
The browser loads a web-page but I am not sure about the sandbox working correctly even though ‘ps -ef | grep -i sandbox’ shows some results related to (ungoogled) chrome.

Sorry about spurious post. Will put it in the correct place later.
If you use a previous chrome or chromium profile ungoogled will
not work as intended, a lot of settings are different.
That may be giving you the errors.

After eating I can start from command line and see if i get any weird messages.

Hi sybok,
sorry I was very tired yesterday, and cold or flu starting.

Just checked, I only get errors related to my GPU. Can not connect to bus.
well known problem with chrome based browsers on linux. I will just ignore it.
Probably the warnings would go away if I set a chrome flag for gpu back to default.

I have the browser in /opt along with other packages I installed my optional packages
there plus a few self compiled. Means majority of non repo packages are all in one place.

Never mind the delay. It took me some time to reply (though I read your post the day it appeared) because being busy at work.
As I wrote, I will stick to the as-is chromium at least for now.
