Hi everyone,
I am new to everything, that means Linux, AntiX, in other words, the whole lot.I installed AntiX 17.3 i386 on an old laptop yesterday and it seems to run reasonably well.
What I would like to do is to remove Firefox, I tried with the usual sudo-apt and purge command (which I found online), but the terminal told me firefox was not found, same for mozilla, and in my applications list it says “Firefox ESR” (couldn’t find that neither).Does anyone know the correct location of Firefox and the correct command to get it off the system?
And while I’m at it, could someone recommend a super lightweight browser for the platform (so far I have tried Chromium and Midori on other distros, but if there are even lighter ones I would like to hear it).
Any help will be much appreciated.

::dpkg (apt-get) “knows” firefox only by its packagename (firefox-esr), so try:
sudo apt-get purge firefox-esrSome additional files (your personal “profile” stuff) will be untouched by the purge operation.
Commands to cleanup:rm -Rf ~/.mozilla
^— your ff profile files reside in this directoryrm -Rf ~/.cache/.mozilla
^— files comprising the browser’s cache reside in this directoryJanuary 18, 2019 at 4:49 pm #16729Anonymous
::super lightweight browser
the “dillo” and “elinks” web browsers are both pre-installed in antiX.
Other alternatives have been discussed/recommended by other antiX users here: https://www.antixforum.com/forums/topic/web-browsers/

::17.3 (full and base) had an issue. The very latest is 17.3.1

Philosophers have interpreted the world in many ways; the point is to change it.
antiX with runit - leaner and meaner.

::Thank you very much.
That did it.On trying to remove the leftovers AntiX told me it couldn’t because of folders not being empty, but I’ll check that out later.
I am trying Pale Moon right now.Thanks again, I am very grateful.
However, lots more questions to come as I am an ignoramus where Linux is concerned.
Thanks again.January 18, 2019 at 5:29 pm #16737Membermrfdes

It seems like elinks is not pre-installed.
Or is it te one called Links 2?
There is nothing on there, no menus, no adddress bar, nothing. 😀January 18, 2019 at 7:13 pm #16760Moderator

::Slimjet is the one that runs the best for me on my old 32-bit netbook. Runs better than any of the other lightweight ones for me – surprisingly. I say surprisingly because it’s based on Chromium. I also uninstalled Firefox on that computer because it’s just too heavy. I like links2 quite a bit, but it doesn’t work for some sites like dropbox, or for videos. For You Tube videos with links2, combine it with Streamlight (installed by default). Slimjet works very well for my Dell Mini-9 netbook, for those, though.
confirmed antiX frugaler, since 2019

::Hi,
thank you for the advice.
I looked up how to install it, but when I tried this command:
$ wget http://www.slimjet.com/release/archive/8.0.4.0/slimjet_i386.deb
I got a “404” Not found error.Where do I go from here?
Thanks.
EDITED: Must have been the version.
Tried 21.0.7.0, that downloaded, but did not install due to loads of errors.- This reply was modified 4 years, 3 months ago by mrfdes.

::Many different applications like browsers, kernels….. can be installed easily on antiX through the package-installer in control-centre.
Slimjet is one of them,control-center~~~system~~~package-installer

::Now one more thing:
How can I set it so that it opens when I click “Web Browser” in the main menu?
When I click on that now, nothing happens.Thanks in advance.

::Again control-center is your friend. There is “Preferred applications” right after opening it.This should change the menu to your needs.
