For those that like to live on the bleeding edge and build upwards from a small base, antiX has made available iso files based on Debian sid. Users are expected to be proficient.
We offer the following completely systemd-free and elogind-free flavours for both 32 and 64 bit architecture. User can download sysVinit or runit versions.
antiX-core (c500MB) – no X, but should support most wireless (libdbus-1-3 is installed).
antiX-net (c200MB)- no X. Just enough to get you connected (wired) and ready to build (no libdbus-1-3).
The 32 bit version uses a non-pae kernel.
All versions default to using our legacy 4.9.0-326 kernel. 5.10 kernels are available.

And make working backups.
I have found it easier to move a full version to sid than build on base.
I make no claim to be proficient :-).sid is at present interesting due to many changes, Fun and in the words of the
late great Doug Adams, mostly harmless. Stability in my somewhat limited
experience as good as arch which I sometimes miss because of aur and aur helper

I noticed that zstd compression is not supported CONFIG_RD_ZSTD by the kernel, so it uses gzip instead.
I built a base iso off this. Not too many problems.

By the ‘freshest version’, you mean freshly built based on antiX 22 SID ISOs as posted by anticapitalista in the first post link, or you mean an older build but freshly upgraded (I am referring to the 131 updates mentioned before)?

At the moment, I have fixed the seamonkey setup since for base it is the default web browser, updated the 131 packages, and fixed the broken firmware package problem.
I have also added the liquorix 6.0 kernel but left the 4.9 kernel. Sorry, I don’t know how to make the 4.9 the default, but I’m testing on a Core II from 2007, so it should be good for many older 64 bit machines.
Once I get it to where I’m happier with it, I’ll upload another .iso. Hopefully sometime this weekend.
At the moment, I’m working on IceWM, and I’m just going to try to make it look and work the way I would want to see it on antiX 23. I will start with just the medium sized new theme and leave just the medium sized Blue Day theme to compare it with. Changes for the new one include enabling edge switching with 4 workspaces, disabling the memory monitor, adding the CPU temp to the CPU monitor, and reducing the frequency and width of the monitors to minimize performance impact and still provide good info. The actual end result will I’m sure be decided by anticapitalista, but I’ll hopefully provide him some options and ideas.
I’m also planning to tweak the login screen I did for slimski to reduce it to where I can read it with glasses but not need a 5x magnifying glass on my 4k or 1080p video, which should reduce it by 1/3 I’m guessing, and look much more normal (better) on the older low resolution systems. Testing on a 2007 laptop, which probably is pretty normal for antiX makes it easy to see why people complained about the size. It was my fault, so I’ll fix it.
Should I leave Firefox-ESR installed? Base doesn’t normally come with it…

In Grub, you can set the default entry to the submenu, since branching is supported using “>”.
On the first level it is counted through from 0, a submenu gets the consecutive number of its position. Within the submenu it is started again with 0. So if the submenu is in the second position (corresponds to 1) and in the submenu the third entry should be started (corresponds to 2), the entry in /etc/default/grub is (with quotes!)GRUB_DEFAULT="1>2" 0 Title1 (e.g. kernel 3.8) 1 title2 (e.g. Advanced....) > > 0 subtitle1 > 1 subtitle2 > 2 subtitle3 (e.g. kernel 3.7) <- set as default 2 title2 ...Another possibility (easier ?) would be to make appropriate entries in (/etc/grub.d/40_custom).
– to do this, it must first be copied somewhere ($HOME)
– then make the entry that points to kernel 4.9
– then rename it to ‘09_linux‘ after saving it
– and finally move it to the directory (/etc/grub.d/)After update-grub and a reboot the kernel 4.9 is always default.

Sorry, I had to take the 6.0 kernel out. I was having all kinds of problems trying to burn a USB that would work, and there was no way to boot the older kernel. I couldn’t even read the screens.

I think I like the theme. Blue Day or something, modified. I am not typically using any wallpaper so usually the first thing I do is to set the desktop to no wallpaper.
The only thing I did not like was the legacy style of the login screen, carried over from antiX 21. In those times I changed that Login screen to Default, which I considered more aesthetic.Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

Blue Day is much like many other themes in that its designed for keyboard use, not mouse. The themes I’ve created are designed for ease of use with a keyboard, mouse or trackpad on a laptop or desktop.
antiX by default uses slimski to login, and skidoo told us at some point that it does not have internationalization built into it. The graphics rather than words were put in so non-english speakers would understand what to enter. If the internationalization and translations were added to the program, that would help.
In addition, that one panel is also being used for screen resolutions from 800×600 to 3840×2160 and from one to many screens. If someone had 2 screens, the login panel would be displayed in the middle, half on one screen and half on the other, and the left half could be on the right and right half on the left, depending on which connector each screen was plugged into. Due to the panel’s lack of flexibility, on the 3840×2160 (4k video) screen, you needed to use a 5x magnifying glass to see the fields, and was too small to read on a 1920×1080 (1080p) screen, also. I can reduce the panel and graphics sizes more, but anyone with 4k video will need to scale it down on the boot screen to 11080p at least to be able to read it, and I’m not sure that would work under grub without modification, which would be used after install. Again, if the program could either handle multiple resolutions or was able to choose a different panel setup based on the primary screen connected, I could reduce it again to a size that would look good on different screen sizes and resolutions. Obviously, reducing it by 25% wasn’t enough to make it pleasing to look at at the screen resolution you are running. If the program can’t be changed, we probably should reduce it again to make it look good from a default virtualbox window or old 1440×900 laptops and not worry about people with 4k screens at all.
I won’t change it again till I hear from anticapitalista, because as I said, I’m running out of web space to host big ISO files.
PS: Did anyone try the edge switching? You can now drag a window to either adjacent workspace by taking it to the top or bottom of your screen and holding it a couple seconds. You can also move to either adjacent workspace the same way. The transparent arrows pop up during the delay so you know you are engaging the edge switching feature., but they don’t come up when dragging a window across, which I figured is not perfect, but acceptable. By doing it up and down, that leaves the ability to get to multiple screens on the sides.

I did. At first came across this accidentally and did not know what happened, when my windows disappeared…
Now that I know what this function does personally I am not a particular fan of this function to so easy and perhaps accidentally cause windows to be moved to a different workspace.
However my vote (if having any saying in this at all) is not against it either because I do not care too much what happens in IceWM world, which is often modified to be more and more quasi-fancy and sometimes even Windows-like to suit novice or former Windows users. IceWM has been as it was in itself a kludge to me that took some time in the past to make it properly work. Therefore perhaps it is a good idea to modify it and make it really fancy, leaving the other supported WMs simple and rock solid.Live antiX Boot Options (Previously posted by Xecure):

I was also was surprised by it, and so i added the big arrows and 2 second delay to give people a clue how it works.It is true that I’m the one who asked for the ability to use it to drag Windows between the workspaces, though. It didn’t make sense to me to have the feature without being able to drag a window too.
If you go to settings, preferences, M – Z, you can turn off Vertical edge switch, and then save the modifications to turn it off.
