The Debian project is pleased to announce the thirteenth (and final)
update of its oldstable distribution Debian 10 (codename “buster”). This
point release mainly adds corrections for security issues, along with a
few adjustments for serious problems. Security advisories have already
been published separately and are referenced where available.

After this point release, Debian’s Security and Release Teams will no
longer be producing updates for Debian 10. Users wishing to continue to
receive security support should upgrade to Debian 11, or see
https://wiki.debian.org/LTS for details about the subset of
architectures and packages covered by the Long Term Support project.

Please note that the point release does not constitute a new version of
Debian 10 but only updates some of the packages included. There is no
need to throw away old “buster” media. After installation, packages can
be upgraded to the current versions using an up-to-date Debian mirror.

Those who frequently install updates from security.debian.org won’t have
to update many packages, and most such updates are included in the point
release.

New installation images will be available soon at the regular locations.

Upgrading an existing installation to this revision can be achieved by
pointing the package management system at one of Debian’s many HTTP
mirrors. A comprehensive list of mirrors is available at:

This was interesting. It seems the LTS support covers all packages from Debian used in antiX. What is the general LTS support for antiX distributions? I read on the homepage that its the same as the Debian LTS, but what about antix specific packages? Do they get updated as well? I’ve noticed Links2, cmus, icewm and alpine have been upgraded on antix 19.5 from the antix repos. Will this continue?

(I would upgrade to antix 21, its just that my antix 19 install has been tweaked to perfection)

Some of our older releases have indeed been very good and I appreciate what you mean.

As far as customized systems go, why not back up your entire directory, including hidden files that may contain your configuration, install newer software and replace the home directory.

I don’t copy 100% of everything but I have a .bashrc file that’s been slightly modified from a .kshrc file dating back to the nineties!

I’ll grant you it’s not identical but over 90% of the content, even the comments, are identical. It’s working for me 2 1/2 decades later and I think it can work for you, plus in my case I tried hard to make as much as possible work with sh, ksh and bash; it’s working out across UNIX and Linux systems too; that’s portable code!

Thanks Brian!

The problem is that the dotfiles in the home directory and .config doesnt even begin to cover it. Off the top of my head, some configs that would not be carried over are: editing /etc/inittab to allow autologin on tty1, edit /etc/apt/apt.conf to get apt to also install recommended packages, change default sudo editor (sudo update-alternatives –install /usr/bin/editor editor /usr/bin/micro 100), purge unnecessary locales, etc etc. I’ve installed antix 21 on other systems and thats when it becomes apparent just how much I’ve tweaked antix 19. So when I finally do get around to upgrading to 21 on my main system I’m going to document every single change that I make 🙂

Its a fun game of rediscovery. Run sudo visudo in the terminal and realize that, oh yeah, its using nano as the editor. I changed that to a more sane editor like micro on my other system, but how? Google, find solution, implement. Repeat.

Hi @blur13:
1) ‘/etc/’ that’s why it is usually suggested to backup both ‘/etc/’ and ‘/home/$(whoami)/’ (especially ‘.’ files and folders in home) before upgrade.
I occasionally back these two folders.
2) Also, I keep a list of “TODO” for a new install and installed additional packages in my current system (such as ‘detox’ etc.).
The “TODO” contains custom modifications in ‘sudo’ (do not have to input password for ‘apt/apt-get/aptitude update’ etc.) and others.

Doing both proved handy several times (e.g. when I bought a new PC or I accidentaly messed up the system).

Thanks sybok! That matches what I remember from the days when I had 2-3 UNIX workstations available.

I’d run a daily build on one of them and I had shell scripts for backup and recovery of the files I wanted to retain and you are 100% correct:
/home, certain files in /etc and a few additional items that I wanted to preserve; I had forgotten about them and you are correct.
